Smooth Criminal

No not Bob Ney.

Remember when Michael Jackson was an entertainer and not a child molester? Remember when you would simply couldn’t wait until his next video would come out? In his day, he was as good as they got. Smooth Criminal like many of the videos and music that Michael Jackson did back then Smooth Criminal broke new ground. The visuals were awesome. The video was part of a larger movie. Anyway that was a long time ago. Bush I was in the White House. Iraq hadn’t been invaded once. We were friends with Osama Bin Laden. We were still fighting the Soviet Union. Wow, that really was a long time ago.

Enjoy.

WW - political landscape

Washington Week, in my opinion, may be one of the most thoughtful political talk shows on the boob tube today.  Outstanding reporters discuss the current issues of the day.  Gwen Ifel is outstanding as a moderator.  Anyway, enough of the praise.  This is an excellent discussion about the upcoming election.

TDS - Samantha Bee on Congressmen and Pages

I think the point is obvious.  As she tries to make the point that Congressman can’t help themselves.  She’s doing it for laughs.  The congressmen should be able to help themselves.  Harassing male or female pages should not be tolerated.

Earthquake off the coast of Paradise (Hawaii)

The only reason I’m posting this is to underscore the point - be skeptical and be thoughtful.

From CNN.com:

(CNN) — A light earthquake rumbled underneath the islands of Hawaii on Sunday, the National Earthquake Information Center reported on its Web site.

The quake had a magnitude of 4.9 and was centered 137 miles east-southeast of Honolulu, the NEIC said.

The temblor struck at 7:14 a.m. local time (1:14 p.m. ET) and was measured at a depth of about 9.6 miles.

Nice simple story.  Straight and to the point.  Unfortunately, it’s wrong.  It’s wrong on the only detail that mattered in the story — the magnitude of the earthquake.

Here’s what got in line the United States geological survey has to say:

Update (19:30 CST):

Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle issued a disaster declaration for the entire state about four hours after a strong earthquake rumbled throughout its Big Island at 7:07 a.m. (1:07 p.m. ET) Sunday.

There have been as many as 20 aftershocks, with the strongest recorded at 5.8, officials told CNN.

The quake knocked out power at many homes across the island chain and caused at least one landslide on a major roadway on the island of Hawaii, known as the Big Island, according to Hawaii’s KITV. Officials said a state of emergency had been declared on the Big Island.

Authorities told KITV they have not received news of any fatalities from the strong quake, which was measured by the National Earthquake Information Center as 6.6 in magnitude. more

This clip is an interview with the Mayor of the Big Island.  Much more of a big deal than originally thought.

Cowboys 34, Houston 6

Photo: AP

As we have seen a couple of times this year, the Cowboys play different in the first half than they do in the second half.  The Houston Texans had a long drive to open the game but only ended up with a field goal.  The Cowboys defense slowly began to shut down the number one rated passer (David Carr) in the league.  For some unexplainable reason the Cowboys still had problems with pressure in the first half.  People were coming free, again.  Drew Bledsoe enjoyed another forgettable half.

Again, a tale of two halves.  The Cowboys come out and take the opening kickoff and march 68 yards in nine plays which ends with a Terrell Owens touchdown.  This begins a concerted effort by both the offense and defense to actually play football.  The defense created turnovers. The special teams created turnovers.  The offense protected the ball and they protected Drew Bledsoe, what a concept.  When it was all said and done, Terrell Owens, Mr. mouth, Mr. I’m for myself, scored three touchdowns.  Julius Jones had 22 carries for 106 yards.  Even Tony Romo, who came in late in the fourth quarter because the game was out of reach, completed two of two passes for 35 yards and one touchdown (to Terrell Owens, of course.)

Now let’s see which Dallas Cowboys team will come out and play next week.

Countdown: Dobson wins (or loses) Worst Person in the World
