Cowboys season ends on a botched Field Goal – perfect

I have not idea if the Cowboys will win this thing but they really don’t deserve it.  Terry Glenn fumbles.  Safety.  The Cowboys give up a touchdown over the middle to Jeremy Stevens.  This gives the Cowboys chance.  The score is 21 – 20.  We pass and run the ball down to the 1 yard line.  There is just about a minute and a half to go. Romo botches the snap for the go ahead field goal.  A fitting end to a very frustrating season.

Reid and Pelosi’s Letter to the President

Dear Mr. President:

The start of the new Congress brings us opportunities to work together on the critical issues confronting our country. No issue is more important than finding an end to the war in Iraq. December was the deadliest month of the war in over two years, pushing U.S. fatality figures over the 3,000 mark.

The American people demonstrated in the November elections that they do not believe your current Iraq policy will lead to success and that we need a change in direction for the sake of our troops and the Iraqi people. We understand that you are completing your post-election consultations on Iraq and are preparing to make a major address on your Iraq strategy to the American people next week. [Read more →]

Avalanche in Colorado

Breaking Story.

From CNN.com:

A massive avalanche — 200 feet wide and 15 feet deep — swept across one of Colorado’s main recreation routes, burying at least two cars and prompting a search for possible survivors Saturday.

Officials said six people were rescued from two cars, and one person was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The avalanche rumbled across U.S. 40 in three places near 11,307-foot Berthoud Pass, 50 miles west of Denver, shortly after 10:30 a.m. (12:30 p.m. ET). The busy freeway leads to the popular Winter Park ski resort.

U.S. 40 will remain closed between Winter Park and Interstate 70 “for the foreseeable future,” said Bob Wilson, spokesman for the Colorado Department of Transportation. (more..)

Nancy Pelosi takes over

A new speaker of the House was elected.  There really wasn’t any excitement.  We knew what was going to happen but it was still cool to watch.

Countdown: The Dems take charge

Keith Olbermann reviews the Democratic agenda.  John Murtha joins Keith.  Murtha, chairman of the House Appropriations Defense subcommittee, promises to actually oversee the White House.  He is going to look at the supplemental spending bill – over $90 Billion.  Excellent interview.

Countdown: Let me look at your mail

So, with the latest in signing statements, the White House believes that it can look at your mail. This really should not be a surprise to anyone. The White House has been pushing the envelope for 2 years now. This was really the next step.

Chris Rock’s New Movie

This could be a dud but it looks very funny.

The 110th Congress

Came across a new blog today that shows great promise. It’s called U.S. House Digest, and plans to provide a daily summary of the House’s activities in everyday, digestible language. Go take a peek. I was planning to hit on a few of the highlights of the “First 100 Hours” plan and found this during my searches.

Votes so far and summaries of issues:

Roll Call #1 – Attendance. Just like kindergarten. Everybody showed up. “Present”-435. “No Vote”-0. Now that we’re all here, let’s get down to business.

Roll Call #2 – Election for Speaker of the House. Nancy Pelosi wins, 233-202, on straight party lines, over John Boehner. How much trouble do you think you would be in if you crossed over on this vote? But seriously, John Boehner? From Abramoff ties, to Foley blind eyes, this guy has got lobbyist slime dripping all over him. I mean, handing out donation checks from tobacco companies on the House floor, while colleagues were discussing how to vote on tobacco subsidies? Nice. [Read more →]
