So where does Dallas go from here

cowboys-seahawks So where does Dallas go from here

The Dallas Cowboys had the best season in a long time.  Well, that’s not really true.  They were 9 - 7 last year and they were 10 - 6 three years ago.  So what do we have over the last 4 years?  Bill Parcells proved that a good coach can made medrocre players play pretty well.  Over 4 years, we have searched for a quarterback. There was Quincy Carter who is now in jail if I’m not mistaken.  There was Vennie T who had peroids of brilliance.  There was Drew Bledsoe who had a few great games but also tended to hold the ball too long.  These 3 quarterbacks seem to have some of Tony Romo’s good traits and some of his bad habits.

Tony Romo had the most up and down season that I think I have ever seen.  The NFL is not about being a flash in the pan.  It is about consistent performance.  That is not Romo.  November he was about as good as there was in the NFL.  His mistakes during this peroid did not result in ints at this time.  Now, December was other story.  Everyone of Romo’s mistakes was turned into ints and fumbles.  So which Romo is the one of the future?

In my really worthless opinion, I beleive that the Cowboys need some on the field leadership.  Someone like Michael Irvin.  Someone who has fire and spirit.  Someone who pushes his teammates and makes them better.  They need a go to receiver.  They need someone who will get the job done even when everyone knows who is going to get the ball.

On the defense they need they same type of player.  Some one who will take over the game.  We need someone will stand up and make a play.  Roy Williams isn’t that guy.  He will disappear sometimes.  Demarcus Ware may be that guy.  The Cowboys need a free safety in a bad way.  The defensive line seems to be unable to put pressure on the quarterback without help.  We need an inside linebacker who can make plays.

If the Cowboys fix a couple of things they can go deep into the playoffs next year.  If Parcells leaves the longest playoff victory drought in Dallas Cowboy history will continue for several years.

FTN - Pelosi on taxes

Pelosi does a great job at answering these questions. Face the Nation’s Bob Schieffer tries to get Pelosi to say that she will repeal Bush’s tax cuts. She stays away from argumentative topics.

Isreal planning a nuclear strike on Iran?

iran Isreal planning a nuclear strike on Iran? From CBSnews.com:

A British newspaper reported Sunday that Israel has drafted plans to strike as many as three targets in Iran with low-yield nuclear weapons, aiming to halt Tehran’s uranium enrichment program. The Israeli Foreign Ministry denied the report.

Citing multiple unidentified Israeli military sources, The Sunday Times said the proposals involved using so-called “bunker-buster” nuclear weapons to attack nuclear facilities at three sites south of the Iranian capital.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s office said it would not respond to the claim. “We don’t respond to publications in the Sunday Times,” said Miri Eisin, Olmert’s spokeswoman.

This is sure to make the region a little more tense.  The quote from the end of the CBS article is a classic.  “No reliable source would ever speak about this, certainly not to the Sunday Times.”

Quincy Jones - We B Doin’ It

I decided to post a second video since the Cowboys went down in flames.  So, instead of hitting my TV or drinking, I’m listening to music.

One of my favorite albums (CD’s) of all time is Quincy Jones’ Back on the Block.  The sound was the first thing that hit me.  The list of great artists on this album include Ray Charles, Ice T, Barry White, Chaka Kahn and El DeBarge just to name a few.  Somehow Quincy manages to mix the old with the new and get a GREAT sound.  His version of Birdland is better than any I have ever heard before.

In this video you can see the great acapella gospel group Take 6 in the background.  Al Jarreau looks like his just got out of rehab.  It is a great tune nonetheless.

Donnell Jones - U Know what’s up

I really like this tune.  When I first heard it I was stuck by its groove and its old school sound.  It is more than 7 years later and I still love it.

The rapper on this tune deserves a special note.  She is Left Eye Lopez from TLC.  She was a very talented troubled young women.  She died in a motor vehicle crash in Honderas in 2002.

So long, dear friend (and don’t let the door hit you…)

harriet miers

When exactly did Harriet Miers turn from being the best available candidate to take a lifelong appointment on the highest court in our nation into somebody kicked to the curb and not even adequate to serve anymore as White House counsel?

Back when she was nominated, in October ‘05, she was the greatest thing since sliced bread and was going to be a vital addition to the Supreme Court. From MSNBC:

“She has devoted her life to the rule of law and the cause of justice,” Bush said, announcing his choice from the Oval Office with Miers at his side. “She will be an outstanding addition to the Supreme Court of the United States.”

and according to Bush she was

“a trusted adviser on whom I have long relied for straightforward advice.”

Now, after six years in the position, White House spokesman Tony Snow, when asked why she was leaving, said:

“Basically, she has been here six years.”

In a near-future likely to be marked by more than a couple subpoenas and hearings, and in the midst of the current legal tussle over whether or not the White House visitation logs kept by the Secret Service are presidential papers or governmental papers, it sounds to me like somebody is starting to “lawyer up”.
