Real Free Speech - Dennis Miller

It is kind of odd how some people are completely changed by events and others are not. Dennis Miller is one of those people who were completely changed by 9/11. He has stated that his revelation came when he noticed that people were trying to kill us. My question is-why didn’t you know that before? I know it. The information was out there. Did he just read the paper and skip over the bad parts?

He has been trying to find his niche ever since 9/11. he has lost his HBO gig. He had something on MSNBC, if I am not mistaken, but he lost that also. Then he was on some network like CNBC but that also fell through.

So, Dennis Miller tries to explain about the weapons of mass destruction and where’s bin Laden. he starts with the old standby that everybody thought Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Yes, that is correct. BUT, everybody did not invade Iraq. We did. Therefore, we have spent 3000 American lives and over $350 billion on a hoax. Saddam Hussein bluffed and we spent 3000 lives proving his bluff was wrong.

Dennis Miller then goes into his who cares where Osama bin Laden is?  Basically, Dennis Miller tells us that we should just move on.  We should move on to the rest of the war on terror and grow some gonads.  Well, my gonads are fine.  I guess, I should ask Dennis Miller, if somebody rolls a grenade into your house and blows up your living room, what do you do?  You chased the guy down the street and around the corner and you go so far as to chase them out of town, do you then say just forget about him?  No, of course not.  Osama bin Laden is important because our enemy thinks he’s important.  Our enemies continue to listen to his rants and draw inspiration from them.  Killing or capturing Osama bin Laden will not end terrorism.  It will, on the other hand, begin to close the book on 9/11.  It is called Justice or has the right completely lost sight Justice.

Cheney on Fox News Sunday

Whenever the president is in trouble Cheney to the rescue.  Cheney is his normal gruff self.

Wallace asked: Will we do whatever it takes to win?

Cheney: I believe we will.  (Then he begins to filibuster the rest of the question.  Wallace never defines victory.  Vice President Cheney does nothing to explain what victory means.  Does victory mean peace to the Middle East?  Does it remain a functioning democracy in Iraq?  Someone please defined functioning democracy for me.  It seems to me that the administration would define a functioning democracy as one that has elections.  In my mind, that is not the only criteria of having a functioning democracy.  The big question which has never asked, is how it is surge and accelerate any different than operation together forward? Operation together forward was supposed to be a joint military operation between the Iraqis and the Americans.  This latest operation is supposed to be a joint military operation between the Iraqis and the Americans with more American troops.  The purpose of both of these operations is to secure Baghdad.  The strategic goal is exactly the same.)

Maybe I missed it but what is Cheney and the Bush administration going to do about the militias?  Without addressing the militias, this operation will fail just like the previous four operations have done.  The major problem, as I see it, and Iraq is the fact that major politicians are aligned with or have their own militia.  As long as the Iraqi politicians are allowed to straddle the fence and support the Americans by day and support the militias by night, the violence in Baghdad, the violence in Iraq will continue.  Unfortunately, Wallace didn’t ask this question.

There’s a third part to this interview.  I just could stomach watching any more of it.  I may post it later.

Pentagon and CIA peaking in your bank accounts

state-of-war Pentagon and CIA peaking in your bank accountsFor some reason this is news today.  If you read James Risen’s book, State of War, then you knew this information months ago, sort of.  The book didn’t explictedly state that the CIA was looking at our bank accounts but it did tell us the type of information that the FBI and CIA had.  Bank accounts are not that much of stretch.  Risen’s book is great.   It is a must read for anyone who is interested in our government!

From CNN.com:

The Pentagon and to a lesser extent the CIA have been using a little-known power to look at the banking and credit records of hundreds of Americans and others suspected of terrorism or espionage within the United States, according to a published report.

“It is our understanding that the intelligence community agencies make such requests on a limited basis,” said Carl Kropf, a spokesman for the Office of the National Intelligence Director, which oversees all 16 spy agencies in the government.

The so-called national security letters permit the executive branch to seek records about people in terror and spy investigations without a judge’s approval or grand jury subpoena. Government lawyers maintain the legal authority for such tactics is years old and was strengthened by the Patriot Act.  (more…)

Colts and Saints move on in the playoffs

vinatieri-feild-goal Colts and Saints move on in the playoffs

Yesterday was one of those magical days in the National Football League. Days like Saturday did not come around that often anymore. One of the reasons that Saturday was special was because it was the playoffs. More importantly, both for the game Saturday were good games.

Since parity was achieved in the NFL, mediocrity has reigned. Every team has a couple of marquee players. Almost every team has an opportunity to win on any given Sunday. This is clearly a good thing if you live in someplace like Phoenix or Tampa. These teams have been chronically mediocre. “Parity” has been a terrible thing if you live in someplace like Pittsburgh or Dallas.

Four years ago we saw the impact of coaching on the NFL. Bill Parcells took over a very mediocre Dallas Cowboy team. He clearly showed that coaching was worth three or four victories per year. Three or four victories per year are the difference between making the playoffs and watching the playoffs. [Read more →]

Moron du jour

Thus begins an irregularly-scheduled occasional series devoted to whomever I find deserving.

Our inaugural hypocritical candidate is House Representative Jack Kingston (R-GA-01)

Representative Kingston first bubbled onto the radar screen when he protested against the indignity, the horror, the inhumanity that Speaker Nancy Pelosi was inflicting upon him by requiring that he actually work five days a week. When the three-day work week of the “Do-Less Than Nothing” 109th Congress was kicked to the curb in early December, Rep. Kingston whimpered:

“Keeping us up here eats away at families. Marriages suffer. The Democrats could care less about families — that’s what this says.”
