Cheney on Fox News Sunday

Whenever the president is in trouble Cheney to the rescue.  Cheney is his normal gruff self.

Wallace asked: Will we do whatever it takes to win?

Cheney: I believe we will.  (Then he begins to filibuster the rest of the question.  Wallace never defines victory.  Vice President Cheney does nothing to explain what victory means.  Does victory mean peace to the Middle East?  Does it remain a functioning democracy in Iraq?  Someone please defined functioning democracy for me.  It seems to me that the administration would define a functioning democracy as one that has elections.  In my mind, that is not the only criteria of having a functioning democracy.  The big question which has never asked, is how it is surge and accelerate any different than operation together forward? Operation together forward was supposed to be a joint military operation between the Iraqis and the Americans.  This latest operation is supposed to be a joint military operation between the Iraqis and the Americans with more American troops.  The purpose of both of these operations is to secure Baghdad.  The strategic goal is exactly the same.)

Maybe I missed it but what is Cheney and the Bush administration going to do about the militias?  Without addressing the militias, this operation will fail just like the previous four operations have done.  The major problem, as I see it, and Iraq is the fact that major politicians are aligned with or have their own militia.  As long as the Iraqi politicians are allowed to straddle the fence and support the Americans by day and support the militias by night, the violence in Baghdad, the violence in Iraq will continue.  Unfortunately, Wallace didn’t ask this question.

There’s a third part to this interview.  I just could stomach watching any more of it.  I may post it later.

One Response to “Cheney on Fox News Sunday”

  1. Kudos to you for even being able to watch two parts of this interview. I’d have thrown something through my shiny new television in that time. Something about watching Cheney pisses me off even more than watching Bush. I think it’s the condescension and arrogance.
