Libby Trial: Libby’s own grand jury testimony

As you look at the video remember these facts, during that fateful week in July 2003:

  • Rove talked to 2 reporters (Robert Novak [July 9, 2003] and Matt Cooper [July 11, 2003 and July 12, 2003])
  • Libby talked to 2 reporters (Judy Miller [June 23, 2003, July 8, 2003 and July 12, 2003] and Matt Cooper [July 12, 2003])
  • Armitage talked to 2 reporters (Novak [July 8, 2003] and Woodard)

One other reporter was told about Valerie Plame Wilson “sending” her husband to Niger, it was Walter Pincus of the Washington Post.  Pincus was working on a story that Tenet told the White House that the 16 words should not be in the Cincinnati speech (full text of speech is here).

Finally, Tim Russert of Meet the Press spoke with Libby on July 10, 2003.  Libby testified before the grand jury that he learned the name of Valerie Plame from Mr. Russert.  (another great timeline - here.)

Washington Post has an outstanding graphic that has the best timeline that I have seen on Libby role.

  1. [...] School is in. Let’s review what we know about the CIA Leak case. Cheney and Libby are regularly going to the CIA to review the intelligence. He asks the CIA to follow up on this Niger claim. Joe Wilson goes to Niger. One of the things that I don’t mention on my show is that there is a reason that Joe Wilson is sent. It is not because he was Valerie Plame’s husband. He is a former ambassador to Niger. He knows the country. He has contacts in the country. He understands how uranium is mined and how it is controlled by the French government. This is important. I go thru the timeline of major stories on the Niger yellowcake deal and when government officials talk to reporters (I have a table here.) The New York Times has a great timeline and the Washington Post has a great one. [...]
