Al Franken runs for Senate

Al FrankinLook, Al Franken isn’t perfect.  On the other hand, he was the first one that would and could stand up to the Republican onslaught.  He was the first that spoke with a clear voice that I heard.  His books were/are funny and honest.  His books were well researched.  He documented his sources with the care of a scholar.  He was the perfect person to hold down the top spot at Air America.  His show wasn’t perfect but he did gain a large and loyal following.  He used humor and biting sarcasm to make his points.  Could he have been more entertaining?  Could he have been less preachy?

The bottom-line is Al Franken has been a leading voice in liberalism.  He understands the needs of America.  He has thought about national problems.  He will not be perfect.  He will be a voice that will not back down when faced with Republican blather.  If I lived in Minnesota, I would vote for Al.

Good Luck, Al.  Run, Al, run!!!

TDS - Obamania

This is one of the funniest skits that the TDS has done in a long time.  By the end of the skit, I was on the floor crying in laugher.  Larry Wilmore doesn’t appear often but he hits home runs when he is on.

From NYT:

Federal prosecutors in San Diego announced on Tuesday an 11-count felony indictment charging a former high-ranking Central Intelligence Agency official with using his seniority and influence to steer contracts to a lifelong friend who had offered him a lucrative job and paid for lavish vacation travel.

The indictment charged Kyle D. Foggo, a former executive director at the C.I.A., with wire fraud, conspiracy, money laundering and failing to report vacation trips and other gifts paid for by the friend, Brent R. Wilkes, a contractor from San Diego. Mr. Wilkes who was charged with concealing his interest in the deals through shell companies and intermediaries.

Mr. Wilkes, who was included in the Foggo indictment, was charged on Tuesday in a second indictment for his role in a separate inquiry last year that resulted in the guilty plea by former Representative Randy Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham was sentenced to more than eight years in prison for accepting more than $2 million in cash and gifts. In that indictment, Mr. Wilkes was charged with providing more than $700,000 to Mr. Cunningham in return for his influence in helping to direct federal contracts to Mr. Wilkes’s principal company, ADCS, which converted paper documents to digitized computer imagery. Chrysler to cut jobs

crossfire-crysler Chrysler to cut jobs

Again, I would ask the Bush Administration to tell me how strong the economy is. There are few making huge sums of money. On the hand, folks can’t afford new cars. That’s a problem isn’t it?

From NYT:

DaimlerChrysler said today that it was leaving all options open for the future of its struggling Chrysler Group, which announced a plan to close all or part of four plants and eliminate 13,000 jobs in North America.

The announcements came as DaimlerChrysler said it earned nearly $7.3 billion last year, despite a loss of nearly $1.5 billion for Chrysler. The Chrysler loss compared with a profit of just more than $2 billion in 2005.

“It was a strong year at three of our divisions, but it’s been a difficult and disappointing one here at the Chrysler Group,” Dieter Zetsche, the chief executive of the German parent, said this morning.

The restructuring plan marked a dramatic swing for a company that had seemed to avoid the same declines as its Detroit rivals.

Chrysler said it would close its Newark, Del., assembly plant in 2009, as well as a parts distribution center in Cleveland.

It also will eliminate one shift of workers at truck plants in Warren, Mich., and St. Louis. (more…)
