Biden pushes back

Joe Biden is a very good senator. He does get the job done.

Here he is pushing back against Wolf’s lame questions and the president and his Republican supporters. He throws the stupid arguments aside and deals with the meat of the issue. Surge or no surge. Reauthorize the war. Do not get into a discussion on funding. Dem’s lose that argument no matter how you slice it.

Libby’s defense rests

I may be wrong. I may be very biased but it doesn’t seem to me that Libby proved anything. The prosecution’s case was tight. No Cheney on the stand. He would have had to lie or admit to “declassifying” a CIA agent’s name for political gain. No Libby on the stand. He would have had to make the ridiculous argument that he had trouble remembering things. He was told about Valerie Plame by the Vice President then forgot it. He was told again by Tim Russert (who testified that he did not tell Libby anything about Valerie Plame because he didn’t know that information at the time). But, here’s the best part, he had so completely forgot what the Vice President of the United States told him that he thought that he had learned the information from Russert for the first time. Oh, and we are to belief that the Vice President of the US who hire a complete dolt as his chief of staff. Yep, that would be the tale that he would have to tell on the stand. No wonder he didn’t testify.

Jet Blue holds passengers for hours

We have all been held in the plane on the tarmac for 30 minutes, 60 minutes or 2 hours but 11 hours?? The CEO of Jet Blue should be tarred and feathered. There is no excuse. It was all about profits. Remember that American Airlines did something similar back in December. BTW, is this kidnapping?

Missing Molly Ivins

Paul Krugman wrote this in the NYT about 7 - 10 days ago:

Molly Ivins, the Texas columnist, died of breast cancer on Wednesday. I first met her more than three years ago, when our book tours crossed. She was, as she wrote, ”a card-carrying member of The Great Liberal Backlash of 2003, one of the half-dozen or so writers now schlepping around the country promoting books that do not speak kindly of Our Leader’s record.”

I can’t claim to have known her well. But I spent enough time with her, and paid enough attention to her work, to know that obituaries that mostly stressed her satirical gifts missed the main point. Yes, she liked to poke fun at the powerful, and was very good at it. But her satire was only the means to an end: holding the powerful accountable. [Read more →]

The Errington Thompson Show 2/3/07

I start off the show with a remembrance of Molly Ivins. (Molly Ivins on PBS.) She was a unique voice. I will miss her. The Texas Observer has turned their whole web site over to remembering Molly Ivins.

Tornadoes in Florida. (As you can hear, I’m still trying to get used to this new studio. I’m trying to use to where the Mic is and where my computer is and I’m moving around. My volume is going up and down. Yuck.)

School is in. Let’s review what we know about the CIA Leak case. Cheney and Libby are regularly going to the CIA to review the intelligence. He asks the CIA to follow up on this Niger claim. Joe Wilson goes to Niger. One of the things that I don’t mention on my show is that there is a reason that Joe Wilson is sent. It is not because he was Valerie Plame’s husband. He is a former ambassador to Niger. He knows the country. He has contacts in the country. He understands how uranium is mined and how it is controlled by the French government. This is important. I go thru the timeline of major stories on the Niger yellowcake deal and when government officials talk to reporters (I have a table here.) The New York Times has a great timeline and the Washington Post has a great one. [Read more →]
