Pardon Libby - I don’t think so
Countdown looks at a Libby pardon. BTW, it should be mentioned that Alison Stewart who has been hosting Countdown has done a great job. She should have her own show!! Dump Tucker! Crank up Alison.

Bill Scher, frequent guest on my radio show, outlines a thoughtful strategy to get out of Iraq.
Regarding Iraq, There are four things Dems need to convey to the public:
1. They have a plan to stabilize Iraq by disengaging militarily, and re-engaging diplomatically and economically.
2. They are doing all they can to implement that plan.
3. If the plan is blocked, it’s because Dubya and his Republican backers never want to leave.
4. A new Oval Office occupant is needed to change course.

Ron Christie worked in the White House. He has always seemed to be a tool of the right. Maybe I’m not giving him a chance. Anyway, Chris Matthews, a former tool of the right, discusses a few political topics. First they tackle the Democratic debate that is really not a debate. The host for the debate was Fox News. Yep, you have read this correctly. Democrats were going to debate in front of Fox New anchors. Oh, that would be fair and balanced. It would have been an opportunity for Fox to sink all of the democratic candidates with one torpedo. Thankfully, John Edwards was the first to see the debate for what it was. He declined to participate. Then Air America Radio suggested that they participate to give the debate some balance. Fox said only one anchor from AAR could participate. The Blog guys have been all over this. Crooks and Liars were out front on this early. Ron Christie doesn’t get it or he just doesn’t want to admit that he gets it. This wasn’t about netroots power it was about Democratic candidates putting their best foot forward.
The discussion then turns to Newt. I’m sorry I don’t care. I really don’t. I would be happy if Newt Gingrich gets into the Presidential race. He will be easy to expose for the rat that he is. America will not like the real Newt. The one that has left 2 wives. The one that resigned over ethics violations. That Newt isn’t so pretty.
Anyway, this is a nice clip.
I’m really not sure why we’re doing this. But tonight we change our clocks.
We are still trying to get the opening segment together. It is getting better. Thing that make you go mmmm is a fun segment that looks at some of the craziness in our world. Then we cover the real stuff. Britain is pulling out of Iraq. The Bush administration is surging and the British are de-surging. The coalition of the willing is much less willing. South Korea, Denmark and multiple other countries are pulling out. We talk to Caroline Wadhams from the Center of American Progress will talk to us about their terrorism index. This is the second time that the Center has gotten terrorism experts from all political favors to see how we are doing. Some of the findings are surprising. We have the pleasure of chatting with Bill Scher of LiberalOasis. We discuss the fact that Tom Vilsack was the first one in and the first one out. Public financing would fix this. The Democrats in the Senate seem to be stuck. Bill believes that this is a good first step. I’m not sure that that we have done anything yet. After I finish the interview with Bill Scher, I summarize the Walter Reed scandal. Tony Snow tries to side step this issue. I’ll have more on Walter Reed next week.
Remember I’m on iTunes and several other podcasting services.
From WaPo Charles Krauthammer (my comments are highlighted and in italics):
There are lies and there are memory lapses. Bill Clinton denied under oath having sex with Monica Lewinsky. Unless you’re Wilt Chamberlain, sex is not the kind of thing you forget easily. Sandy Berger denied stuffing classified documents in his pants, an act not quite as elaborate as sex, but still involving a lot of muscle memory and unlikely to have been honestly forgotten.
Bill Clinton paid for his lies by being impeached. Sandy Berger paid for his lies by pleading no contest. He was fined and given a two-year probation. I love the way conservatives tried to downplay Scooter Libby’s felony. This opening paragraph suggests that nothing happened to Bill Clinton and there are no consequences to Sandy Berger. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Scooter Libby has just been convicted of four felonies that could theoretically give him 25 years in jail for . . . what? Misstating when he first heard a certain piece of information, namely the identity of Joe Wilson’s wife. [Read more →]
