Countdown: Alberto G and his world of trouble

Alberto Gonzales is to _____ as Scooter Libby is to Cheney. I’ll give you a second…. The answer is??? Alberto Gonzales is to President Bush as Scooter is to VP Cheney. This is my opinion but look at the evidence. When Bush wanted to be more aggressive with terrorists, who played twister and wrote a paper to support his position. Alberto. When Bush wanted to listen in on any telephone call that he wanted who sold that bag of dung to Congress. Alberto. When Bush was ramrodding the Patriot Act through Congress a second time and sneaking in small provisions who did Bush call on? Alberto. So, we the Patriot Act was abused, Alberto should take the fall. He sold it. Also, he was the one who fired the US attorneys.

4 months ago, I would have told you that there was no way that AG was going anywhere. But if Bush can get rid of Rummy he can get rid of anybody.

Countdown: Halliburton pull-out curious

My personal take on this is that senior officials at Halliburton has no desire to testify before Congress.  If they get indicted, they will chill in Dubai.  That’s the way the game is played.  Like that old Steve Miller tune - Take the Money and Run.

Also, Keith covers the fact that the surge in Iraq will be 4400 troops more than the President told us 6 weeks ago.  Who’s surprised?

From WaPo:

Oil services giant Halliburton Co. will soon shift its corporate headquarters from Houston to the Mideast financial powerhouse of Dubai, chief executive Dave Lesar announced Sunday.

“Halliburton is opening its corporate headquarters in Dubai while maintaining a corporate office in Houston,” spokeswoman Cathy Mann said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. “The chairman, president and CEO will office from and be based in Dubai to run the company from the UAE.” (more…)

GAO reports nuclear stuff easy to get hands on

I almost laugh when I hear Bush or Cheney saying that they are doing all that they can. Really? How are our oil refineries being protected? Nuclear waste how is that being transported across America? Do those trucks and trains have a military escort?  We are even worse at helping other countries to secure their nuclear material.

From MSNBC.com:

International inspectors working in the former Soviet republic of Georgia last summer tracked down dangerous radiological materials in an abandoned military complex.

It was an important mission. But a new report by U.S. government watchdogs says a parallel effort overseas by the U.S. Department of Energy has made only “limited progress securing many of the most dangerous sources” — waste disposal sites and abandoned generators across Russia, each with enough material for several devastating dirty bombs. Oil prices going up, why?

Just as oil prices were stabilizing there was a shutdown in a pipeline. I’m not talking about now, I’m talking about back in August 2006. We were told to expect the worst. Gas prices were going to go to $3.50 and in some places $4.00 per gallon. I had an expert on the oil industry on my radio show. That’s what she said. That’s what everyone said BUT then a strange thing happened, oil prices fell. Now, gas prices which have been very low for 6 months are climbing again. Why? I’m convinced that no knows or no one will tell us the answer.

Gas Prices have gone up 0.30 in the last 3 weeks.

Countdown: O’Reilly continues to be the Worst Person

As you know, Keith Olbermann does the worst person in the world every night. Many nights O’Reilly has said something to deserve the top honors. He now has a list of terrible things that can only be topped by Coulter. Those kids who died in the fire in the Bronx. They were just children but O’Reilly went off on some rant that they were immigrants and … Who cares!!! They could have been from Mars. They were living, breathing human beings and they died in a house fire. Something that shouldn’t happen in the US. He argued that the left was using this to argue for open borders. First, of all, now is not the time to discuss this. Let’s let those 9 children and 1 adult get in the ground. Let’s mourn for the loss of live. The loss of YOUNG live.

Because he brought it up I would like to point out that the left doesn’t want open borders. No serious politician on the left has ever said such, to my knowledge. To say so, is a lie. I talk about immigration here and here.

General Kiley gone

Remember that General Kiley was in charge of Walter Reed until 2004.  He was the General who downplayed the seriousness of the situation.  I have spliced his comments to the end of this clip.  Original clips are here and here.

From CNN.com:

Lt. Gen. Kevin Kiley has lost his job as Army surgeon general, another casualty of the care scandal at Walter Reed Medical Center.

Acting Army Secretary Pete Geren asked for Kiley’s resignation, and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates approved the action, a senior Pentagon official said.

In its official announcement, the Army said Kiley had requested retirement. [Read more →]

Bush asking for mo’ troops

Surge 2.0.  More troops to Iraq.

———

From CNN.com:

President Bush said Sunday that at least 4,400 additional troops he is sending to Iraq - more than he had originally stated in January would be deployed - will serve in support roles only.

Speaking from Colombia, a stop on his Latin America tour, Bush urged Congress to approve funding for the Iraq war “without any strings attached.”

Two months ago, after an extensive review, Bush ordered 21,500 additional American soldiers to Iraq to help calm Baghdad and the troubled Anbar Province. [Read more →]
