Police officers charged in NY shooting

This case weird from the start.  I talked about the initial details here.  The grand jury has handed down some indictments.

——

From NYT:

A grand jury voted yesterday to indict three city police detectives — two black men and a white man — in the killing of an unarmed 23-year-old black man who died in a burst of 50 police bullets outside a Queens strip club hours before he was to be wed last year, defense lawyers and police union leaders said last night. Valerie Plame Wilson testifying before the House

It is good to see her in front of the House.

Update:  She was firm and tough.  She handled the questions very well.  She did what she had to do.  She had to say that she was a covert CIA agent and she did.  There was a large group of right wing TV talking heads that argued their way into believing that Valerie Plame was not covert.  At one time, they were saying that she wasn’t even an agent.  My argument is the same that is made in the book Hubris - if Ms. Plame was not covert then why did the CIA turn her name over to the Justice Department for investigation?  The only people that the CIA turn over to the Justice Department for investigation is covert agents.

From WaPo:

Valerie Plame, the former CIA officer at the heart of a four-year political furor over the Bush administration’s leak of her identity, lashed out at the White House yesterday, testifying in Congress that the president’s aides destroyed a career she loved and slipped her name to reporters for “purely political motives.”

Plame, breaking her public silence about the case, contended that her name and job “were carelessly and recklessly abused” by the government. Although she and her colleagues knew that “we might be exposed and threatened by foreign enemies,” she said, “it was a terrible irony that administration officials were the ones who destroyed my cover.” [Read more →]

The Errington Thompson Show 3/3/07

We are coming up on our 1 year anniversary of our show. What should we do?

Finally, I get my computer to work like I want. I’m able to play audio clips. We start off with Things that make you go…mmmm.

Bush’s approval ratings have fallen to the lowest that I have ever seen. Even his strong hold on die hard Republicans is slippin’.

Walter Reed story keeps revealing more and more problems. Dana Priest of the Washington Post should get a cheer from the American people. Where is the Republican outrage? The question is who is really supporting the troops.

I welcome Aviva Aron Dine from the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities to the show. President Bush’s number one priority is clearly extending the tax cuts. Great discussion.

After the break, I chat with Douglas Johnston, PhD from the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy. We discuss how we would be a lot farther and better off in the Middle East if we understood religion. (If you get a chance please read this guy’s CV. He is very impressive. I’m very pleased that he has agreed to be on my show.)

Last segment of the show seems to have been eaten by the computer gremlins. Sorry.

Remember I’m on iTunes and several other podcasting services.
