Campaign Moolah

The early numbers are out. John Edwards has raised $14 million. I think that this proves that he is a serious candidate. He should be around for the long haul. Hillary has racked in over $26 million. Obama has not put out his figures yet. I will be a huge surprise if he has raised more than Hillary. The number for the rest of the pack will also be interesting. If you haven’t raised over $7 million I’m not sure how you can stay in the race. Yes, it is early but with all of the states moving up their primaries, it is possible for the race to locked up by February of next year. Therefore, you are going to have to have enough money to run in 10 - 15 or more states simultaneously.

Finally, how much money does McCain have? $15 - $20 million? If he has doubled his closest contender in fund raising, he will probably cruise to victory - of the Republican party.

Crier Wire - If George were King

I don’t watch Court TV.  I just don’t have the time.  Heck, I don’t watch American Idol, Lost or 24.  I have never seen Catherine Crier’s show but I did see this video on the ‘net.  I guess that Ms. Crier closes her show with the Crier Wire.  After the Corespondents dinner, I guess the President compelled her to test a theory.  Nice clip.

The Errington Thompson Show 3/31/07

The US Attorney firing, scandal or whatever you want to call it, just isn’t going away.  Therefore, we chat about.  My guest this week is the wonderful Robin Cape, City Councilwoman here in Asheville.  We discuss Smart Growth.

This is the rough cut of the show.  I’ll smooth it out in the next couple of days. ;-)

The Errington Thompson Show 3/17/07

Walter Reed is off of the front page.  So, kicked off the front page is anything to do with Scooter Libby.  Now, it is Alberto Gonzales and the US attorneys 24/7.  My special guest is Glenn Greenwald, author of How would a Patriot Act and the blog Unclaimed Territory (has moved his blog to Salon.com).  We discuss domestic spying.  Eavesdropping is important weapon to combat enemies of the US.  The problem is the eavesdropping within the confines of the law.  Jose Padilla case was the case that really started Glenn down this path.  It was the case that revealed that an American under the Bush administration could be imprisoned without a trial, without a hearing, without any contact with family and without legal counsel.  One of the small bits of information that is flowing around is that Bush seemed to have stopped an investigation that was looking into the whether anyone in the Justice Department acted improperly while advising the president on the domestic spying issue.  Of course, we cover the firing of the US Attorneys. This is a good and informative conversation.
