Pollen is attacking my sinuses

Look at these pollen counts.  No wonder I can’t breath.

Mit Romney - Jeb Bush

Yuck. I just threw up on my keyboard. Yep, Mit mentions Jeb as a possible running mate. Remember before Katrina, Republicans were talking about Jeb running for president. I’m thinking after the Terri Schiavo mess Jeb Bush proved that he shouldn’t be allowed to run for anything. He needs to go and play golf with his father.

Bush begins throwing a temper tantrum

I feel like he should have a bottle of warm milk.  He believes that if he says something often enough the American people will begin to buy it.  I guess he doesn’t remember the Social Security disaster.

Reporter Michael Ware responses to Drudge Report

Michael Ware has been in Iraq reporting the war since the very beginning, if I’m not mistaken. He clearly understands the issues. First, the good news, there is some progress with the Surge. Second, the bad news, Baghdad is still not even close to being safe for Iraqis let alone Americans. Finally, Mr. Ware responds to the Drudge Report (Drudge wins a bronze for the worst person in the world).

According to Crooks and Liars, Drudge has taken down the original post. No apology has just to be posted. I’ll check in the morning.

Countdown - Worst person in the World

It is kind of amazing that Newt Gingrich and his hispanic comment did not make the list.  Drudge should make the list every day.  He passed on the worst rumors that Rush and the gang pick up and pass on as fact.  This time he smears Michael Ware a reporter for CNN who stated that McCain was flat wrong when McCain stated that Baghdad was so safe that an American can walk down the street without fear or Kevlar.  The good news is that Bill-O is back on top.  Just when we thought that he couldn’t get any worse.  He invites a military veteran on the show and tell her that she hates America.

Countdown - Interview with Joe Biden

Senator Joe Biden is a solid progressive candidate for president.  His fund raising wasn’t great but it wasn’t bad.  He is trying to be creative in getting his message out.  The problem is that he has run for President before and really didn’t make a dent in the water.  He needs to catch fire if he is going to be in the race for the long haul.

Keith Olbermann asks Biden about his vote to authorize the war in Iraq.  He asks about the “surge” and John McCain’s statements.  This is a good interview.

Gingrich playing divide and conquer politics, again

Newt Gingrich is a very smart man who understands the game of politics. He is firing up the base when he says, “We should replace bilingual education with immersion in English so people learn the common language of the country and they learn the language of prosperity, not the language of living in a ghetto.” Let’s just play the race card. That’s the way to the White House. Hell, George played divide and conquer politics. So, why shouldn’t Newt?

Unfortunately, the facts seem to slap Newt in the face. There are more Whites living under the poverty line (16.2 million) compared to Blacks (9.2 million). The number of Hispanics living below the poverty line (9.3 million).

Their are injured soldiers Mr. President

6 weeks after the Walter Reed scandal broke our President went over to Walter Reed to check things out for himself.  I’m sure that he will be getting around to the US Attorney problem sometime in the month or so.

From WaPo:

“I was disturbed by their accounts of what went wrong,” he said in a speech to hospital staff members after the tour. “It is not right to have someone volunteer to wear our uniform and not get the best possible care. I apologize for what they went through, and we’re going to fix the problem.”  (more…)

Florida wins

Photo: SI

I used to watch the NCAA basketball all of the time.  In college, a few buddies would grab a few beers and we would watch.  That was back when it was simply the NCAA tournament.  There was no March madness.  Well, all of that has changed.  Now there is madness.  There are office pools like 95% of the folks in the office have seen more than 3 or 4 of the teams.

In spite of my cynical attitude, I tip my hat to Florida.   Doing anything back to back is very difficult these days. The media attention alone is enough to cause athletes to freeze up.  Basketball is a sport that has really taken off since the mid-70’s.  Now, there are tons of great players.  Small schools like Gonza or George Mason can compete.

Now, can the Mavs avoid collapsing like they did last year?  Can Dirk carry them to the finals?  Will the Suns or the Spurs rise up?
