Countdown - No vacation for Gonzo

He is prep’ing this week.  No amount of prep will erase some facts.  He said one thing when something else was the truth.  He tried to heap blame on Kyle Sampson.  Kyle sat in front of the Senate and through that heap back on Alberto.  Gonzales is stuck between a rock and hard place.  He can only plead incompetence or ignorance.  Neither are positions that will save his job.

Keith interviews Jonathan Turley who breaks it down for us.

12,000 National Guard called

I’m speechless. This is more evidence that the “Surge” isn’t working.

From MSNBC.com:

Coming on the heels of a controversial “surge” of 21,000 U.S. troops that has stretched the Army thin, the Defense Department is preparing to send an additional 12,000 National Guard combat forces to Iraq and Afghanistan, defense officials told NBC News on Thursday.

The troops will come from four Guard combat brigades in different states, the officials told NBC News’ chief Pentagon correspondent, Jim Miklaszewski. They said papers ordering the deployment, which would run for one year beginning in early 2008, were awaiting Defense Secretary Robert Gates’ signature. (more…)

Never poke a Marine

John Murtha has been doggin’ the administration for over 2 years now.  At first the administration was just laughing at him.  Then they started to call him names.  Now, they don’t know what to do with him as public opinion has swung toward Murtha.

MTP - Why did Hatch lie on national TV

This isn’t even a good lie.  Who can’t Goggle Carol Lam and find out what’s going on?  The problem is that the American public is not going to take the time to do this.  The right wing will take this and run. Limbaugh parroted this lie on April 2, 2007.  We all know if Limbaugh says it then the rest of the right wing talking heads will echo this for weeks.

First from Wikipedia (understanding the problems with Wiki)  -

Carol C. Lam was sworn in as interim United States Attorney for the Southern District of California on September 4, 2002, and was sworn in as the Presidentially-appointed United States Attorney on November 18, 2002.

Prior to her nomination to the position of United States Attorney, Ms. Lam was a judge of the Superior Court in San Diego, where she presided over a criminal trial calendar. From 1986 to 1997, she served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of California and was Chief of the Major Frauds Section from 1997 to 2000. During her previous tenure in the office, Ms. Lam convicted several high-ranking members of the Chicago organized crime family La Cosa Nostra; obtained a guilty plea and a civil settlement of $110 million from National Health Laboratories, Inc. in a Medicare fraud case; and briefed and argued the first appellate case upholding the constitutionality of “roving” wiretaps.

United States Attorney Lam is the recipient of both the Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney, and the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service. She received her B.A. in Philosophy from Yale University in 1981, and graduated from Stanford Law School in 1985. From 1985 to 1986 Ms. Lam was a law clerk to the Honorable Irving R. Kaufman on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribute - Lam, a career prosecutor, former Superior Court judge and political independent … a Bush appointee who took the helm in 2002

Here’s what Hatch said (watch video):

Take Carol Lam, for instance. Carol Lam was raised on your program, Tim, by Schumer. Carol Lam, it’s amazing to me she wasn’t fired earlier because for three years members of the Congress had complained that there had been all kinds of border patrol capture of these people but hardly any prosecutions. She was a former law professor, no prosecutorial experience, and the former campaign manager in Southern California for Clinton, and they’re trying to say that this administration appoints people politically? Of course they do. That’s what these positions are. But politically they’ve appointed people who have been approved by the Justice Department–the Judiciary Committee, in most cases, who have served well, are strong people and, and, frankly, these, these seven were really mishandled.

Excellent discussion of this whole lie and more proof of the lie is here.
