Imus is fired from CBS

don_imus Imus is fired from CBS

Okay, now what?  I’m still not sure why Imus got caught in the crosshairs.  There are several radio dudes who are potty mouths but they don’t make $10 million per year.

Update I (from media matters):

As I mentioned before, Imus has a long history of racist comments.  Sooner or later, you have to look in the mirror and say that I’m not a good person if I continue to say these things.  This was not a rare occurrence -

Imus called women’s basketball team “nappy-headed hos”

On the April 4 edition of MSNBC’s Imus in the Morning, host Don Imus referred to the Rutgers University women’s basketball team, which is comprised of eight African-American and two white players, as “nappy-headed hos” immediately after the show’s executive producer, Bernard McGuirk, called the team “hard-core hos.” Later, former Imus sports announcer Sid Rosenberg, who was filling in for sportscaster Chris Carlin, said: “The more I look at Rutgers, they look exactly like the [National Basketball Association's] Toronto Raptors.”

He’s back? Rosenberg alluded to previous racially insensitive remarks that first got him fired from Imus

On the March 27 edition of MSNBC’s Imus in the Morning, former Imus sports announcer Sid Rosenberg appeared on the program and referenced a story in the New York Daily News headlined “Serena Shocked by Racist Heckler.” Rosenberg commented, “I was on an airplane,” suggesting that he could not have been the one heckling professional tennis player Serena Williams.

Imus’ McGuirk on “young colored fellah” Obama “pretty much deckin’ the old bag from New York”

On the March 16 edition of MSNBC’s Imus in the Morning, executive producer Bernard McGuirk, performing as his character “Cardinal Egan,” said that “the whole nation is talking about” reports of a “young colored fellah pretty much deckin’ the old bag from New York and takin’ away some of her money.” McGuirk continued: “I’m speaking, of course, about [Sens.] Barack Obama [D-IL] and Hillary Clinton [D-NY].”  (more…)

Update II:

Media Matters has put together some media greatest hits.  Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and others. Great round up.

Bomb explodes within the Green Zone

A bomb goes off within the Iraq Assembly Hall within the Green Zone.  The Iraq Congress had just adjorned.  An Iraqi minister is being interviewed on Iraqi TV.  The explosion can be seen in the background.  I have spliced this clip with Bush’s reaction to the news.  Did you know that there are bad men over there?  Did you know that they would kill innocent life?  After 4 years of violence, anyone who didn’t know that Iraq was a violent place, is under the age of 3.

I guess my only question is how safe is it in Iraq again?  McCain where are you?  Are you looking for your credibility?

NC cuts funding for mental health

mental_health1 NC cuts funding for mental health

Update 2 -  As we appear to be stuck at the level of the Lt Gov office (as the governor and Odom are hiding somewhere), the Lt Gov person who is gathering info is: mike.arnold@ncmail.net.

Update - http://bluenc.com/legislators-throw-mentally-ill-under-the-bus-tomorrow-is-a-day-of-action

From ACT:

Mental health services providers and advocates are organizing to fight the state’s reduction in the rate it pays for services known as community support.

A coalition of groups plans to be in Raleigh today to appeal to legislators and Gov. Mike Easley to rescind the cut. They will hold a news conference in front of the legislative building at 11 a.m.

“We have a permit for 100 people, but I think we’ll go way beyond that,” said Karen McLeod, executive director of the Children and Family Services Association of North Carolina. “This is not just a cut to a program. This is the core of mental health reform. If this stays, there will be a cascade effect. Everything could fall apart.”

Those involved in the event include the N.C Mental Health Association, National Association of Social Workers of North Carolina, Children and Family Services Association of North Carolina, N.C. Providers Council, N.C. Council for Community Programs, Covenant with North Carolina’s Children and the National Alliance on Mental Illness of North Carolina. (more…)

Kurt Vonnegut dead at age 84

vonnegut Kurt Vonnegut dead at age 84

From NYT:

Kurt Vonnegut, whose dark comic talent and urgent moral vision in novels like “Slaughterhouse-Five,” “Cat’s Cradle” and “God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater” caught the temper of his times and the imagination of a generation, died Wednesday night in Manhattan. He was 84 and had homes in Manhattan and in Sagaponack on Long Island.  (more…)

HB - Obama weighs in on Imus and Iraq

It seems that everyone is trying to trip Barack Obama up in and he continues to skillfully maneuver around trouble. The interview starts off with several straight forward questions about Imus. Barack does a great job at saying that the airwaves should be free of comments like this. The conversation turns to McCain and the president. Obama points out that if you are escorted by troops and copters Baghdad does appear safe. Gregory then asks the stupid question of who has more credibility him or McCain on this issue. Terrible question. Obama handles it with skill. Great Job.

MSNBC drops Imus

On Hardball the President of NBC News announces that Imus in the Morning will not be simulcast on MSNBC.  The show is canceled.

I think if Imus says the exact same phrase in the exact same way 24 months ago, nothing is said.  I think that nothing would have happened to him.  Al Sharpton would not have gotten any significant air time outside of traditional Black media.  The country has changed.  Liberals have come out of the closet and we don’t like what we see.  Imus had to go. Remember that Imus had come after Ann Coulter and her homosexual “joke”.   The county has changed and this is a good thing.
