Monica may have done something wrong after all

AP reporting that the Justice Department is looking into whether or not Monica Goodling hired officials that were only Republicans that were loyal to Bush (this would be against the law).

Jonathan Turley makes an excellent point in the video that Congress has to let the investigation proceed so that Monica doesn’t weasel her way out of a crime by testifying and getting a pass.

TPMmuckraker has the story.

Gas prices, the return

The rich continue to get richer.  There are no market forces in place that I can see that would account for the sudden and dramatic rise in gas prices.  This is the greedy taking one last bite at the apple before Democrats control the White House.

In bed with Ellen

I have to admit this is a first for me.  I don’t think that I have ever seen a talk show host do the show from bed.  Ellen DeGeneres has some sort of back injury and can’t get out of bed.  So, she did her show today from…bed.

Al Qaeda in Iraq

As we all know Al Qaeda was not in Iraq in any significant numbers before we arrived. Now, well, let’s say, “mission not accomplished.” Al Qaeda is fighting with our militias in Iraq for control.

From CNN.com:

Pulling U.S. forces from Iraq could trigger catastrophe, CNN analysts and other observers warn, affecting not just Iraq but its neighbors in the Middle East, with far-reaching global implications.

Sectarian violence could erupt on a scale never seen before in Iraq if coalition troops leave before Iraq’s security forces are ready. Supporters of al Qaeda could develop an international hub of terror from which to threaten the West. And the likely civil war could draw countries like Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Iran into a broader conflict. (more…)

And then there is this story which was floating around yesterday.

——-

From WaPo:

Iraqi government officials said Tuesday they believed the leader of the insurgent group al-Qaeda in Iraq was killed north of Baghdad, but U.S. military officials said they could not confirm the reported death.

The Iraqi ministers of defense and interior told reporters there was reliable information that Abu Ayyub al-Masri, the nom de guerre of a man believed to have taken over the group’s leadership after the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, was killed in fighting near Taji. Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh confirmed those reports but said DNA testing would be done to verify Masri’s death. (more…)

Immigration rally in LA

So what happened in LA? An immigration rally turns sour.

From LAT:

Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton said today that some actions taken by officers trying to clear a crowd of marchers at MacArthur Park were “inappropriate” and that he has launched two investigations.

The chief told KNX-AM (1070) that he reviewed the videotapes showing officers using batons and rubber bullets to disperse crowds — including TV news reporters — and said “quite frankly, I was disturbed at what I saw.” (more…)

Impeachment poll

This came from a comment. Take a look -

——–

We definitely have been lied to. And Americans know who did it.

I’d like to bring your attention to:

http://www.usalone.com/cgi-bin/transparency.cgi?paper=1&qnum=pet45

It’s a list of the 25 most recent comments made by real Americans participating in an online poll/letter-writing campaign concerning the impeachment charges filed against Cheney. The participation page is at:

http://www.usalone.com/cheney_impeachment.php

I’d like to ask two things of you:

1) Participate in the poll yourself. Every voice added increases the power of every voice that came before, and every voice that comes after. Participants have the option of having their comments sent to their senator, congressmen, and local newspaper editors. Make some noise!

2) Spread the word. If anyone else has gotten in touch with you, let them know about it. Blog about it, digg it, broadcast it, podcast it, leave messages on craigslist, on forums, use A28 chatter, send emails like this, tell people about it, etc.

Over 25,000 Americans have already participated, and opinion is running 99% in favor of impeachment. The average member of Congress has now received over 60 messages from this effort… the average senator over 500! Keep the momentum going — keep the comments flooding into DC and newspapers around the country. How long until this story becomes “newsworthy”?

We’ve been lied to

Ava Lowery (16 years old) of Peace Takes Courage has made another winning video. Over the last years or so, her video skills have only gotten better.

Mission Accomplished by the numbers.

Selling the War

In spite of President Bush saying that the Democrats don’t support the troops, he seems to be the one who is not supporting the troops.

  • Extending tours of duty
  • Walter Reed
  • Veteran funding cuts every year of his presidency
  • Rumsfeld’s terrible leadership after the fall of Baghdad
  • Tommy Frank’s terrible leadership – he never acknowledged the Fedayeen he thought that they were nothing more than a “speed bump” o the way to Baghdad
  • Staying the course when a new strategy was needed
  • Not sending enough troops
  • No rush for IED proof vehicles
  • Relieving Jay Garner with L. Paul Bremmer who did more to stoke the fire of the insurgency than anyone else
  • Not holding early elections
  • Formally disbanding the Iraq Army

The President said nothing new tonight. For that matter, he hasn’t said anything new since…Mission Accomplished.
