Politico

I have never gotten into Politico.com. I have read the site and I like a few of the writers but there are so many sites to get new from these days, I can’t go there. I didn’t like the fell of the web site. Call me petty. I didn’t like it. With each of the major new outlets plus MSNBC, Salon, The Nation, USA Today, NYT, WaPO, I have enough to read. I haven’t even gotten started on the blogs that I read every day. So, Politico has been thrown in the closet. Glenn Greenwald has been blogging about Politico. It seems that they have right wing ties, deep right wing ties.

Countdown - worst - Paul Harvey

How long has Paul Harvey been on the radio? 40 years? Maybe more. I don’t even know what or which stations that he comes on any more. When it is time to hand it up? To say it has been a good run. I’m done. When does that time come? For athletes many of the best hang on too long. Emmitt Smith, Tony Dorsett, OJ Simpson and Joe Montana are just a few of the athletes that I can think of who played the sport too long. Paul Harvey was a major force in radio. I’m not sure that radio hasn’t past him by. Just the other day, he started complaining that the media makes too much of a big deal about civilian casualties. Hello? What is he talking about?

Red State Update - Tenet

George Tenet has blasted out of the gates with his new book.  I have no idea what book sales are doing.  I’m guessing that they are brisk.  He has been on a number of talk shows.  Because of who is is/was and how central he was to a number of key Bush administration policies he has also been subject for comedy.  This is funny.

Rove coached Department of Justice officials

rove2 Rove coached Department of Justice officials

I’m not surprised. Rove seems to the real decision maker. He’s the decider. Almost nothing gets done unless he approves it.

——-

From Newsweek.com:

Deputy chief of staff Karl Rove participated in a hastily called meeting at the White House two months ago. The subject: The firing of eight U.S. attorneys last year. The purpose: to coach a top Justice Department official heading to Capitol Hill to testify on the prosecutorial purge on what he should say.

Now some investigators are saying that Rove’s attendance at the meeting shows that the president’s chief political advisor may have been involved in an attempt to mislead Congress—one more reason they are demanding to see his emails and force him to testify under oath. (more…)

Wally Schirra

One of our astronauts who had the Right Stuff is dead. Wally Schirra.

——–

From WaPo:

Walter M. Schirra Jr., 84, one of the original seven astronauts and the only man to fly in the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space programs, died of a heart attack May 3 at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla, Calif. He also had cancer.

The quick-witted Navy captain, who was known as Wally, was the fifth American in space at a time when NASA’s manned space program was young and untested. His Oct. 3, 1962, Mercury flight, which lasted 9 hours, 13 minutes and 11 seconds, was considered textbook-perfect. The capsule splashed down only 4.5 miles from the aircraft carrier Kearsarge in the Pacific Ocean. (more…)

Barack speaking truth to Blacks

Look there are problems in the Black community. Some of the problems have an external cause. Other problems have an internal cause. Bill Cosby has spoken out about the problem a couple of years ago. Now, Senator Barack Obama is telling it like it is. As a matter of fact, Barack Obama is doing exactly what a leader must do. Tell the truth. Don’t sugar coat it. Lay it out there.

Go directly to jail, don’t pass go. don’t see your father

I heard about this a couple of days ago. I thought I had heard it wrong. Nope. I heard it right. I cop pulled over a lady who was clearly speeding. She was pulled over as she turned into a hospital parking lot. Watch the tape for yourself. Crazy. The officer has no judgment. In his defense she shouldn’t have pulled off. He should have checked out her story. Just sad when we can’t take the time to help one another. All he had to do was to walk into the hospital and ask at the desk.

The Power of James Brown

I talked about James Brown after his death (here and here).  He was an icon in the Black community.  From the late 50’s to the late 70’s there was nobody like James.
