Divorce billboard causes a stir

Photo: Chicago Sun-Times

I’m sorry but this is funny. This is something that you would say in one of those “brain-storming” sessions at 1 in the morning. You would throw out the idea. Everyone would laugh then you would say, “Naw, that’s stupid and tasteless, but funny.” Then everyone would move on. I guess these guys didn’t move on.

From CNN.com:

A racy billboard proclaiming “Life’s short. Get a divorce” caused such an uproar that city workers stripped it from its downtown perch after a week.

It wasn’t so much about the partially clothed man and woman on the law firm’s ad.

It was the phrase that lawyers Corri Fetman and Kelly Garland chose that drew scores of complaints from neighbors and from other attorneys who said it reflected poorly on their profession. (more…)

Buncombe country republican resigns

There seems to be some issues in the Buncombe county republican party.

The Errington Thompson Show 4/14/07

This was a very interesting show. A lot about Imus and Iraq. The 2 I’s.

I just got back from Raleigh. I visited my sister who just moved there. My mother had flown in from Dallas. It is always interesting spending time with your mother. My mother believes I’m still 16. I have to take out the trash. I have to get or find the remote control but it is all good.

The NC legislature is trying to cut funding for mental health programs. Check out this blog for updates.

Here’s the question about Imus, did CBS know what they were going to get when they hired Imus? If so, didn’t he deliver what they wanted? So, who should be fired? Management at CBS or Imus?

Remember I’m on iTunes and several other podcasting services.

$50 Lottery Ticket Reminds Me Of My Internal Split Between Andrew Jackson and J.Q. Adams

( Hello. My name is Neil Aquino and I live in Houston, Texas. I go by the name Texas Liberal in the blogging world. Errington has been nice enough to allow me to post on Where’s The Outrage? I look forward to your comments and feedback.)

I’ve long been politically and personally conflicted between a mix of Andrew Jackson live-and-let-live small-d democracy and J.Q. Adams interventionist quasi-Federalism.

Many folks—maybe even you the reader— share this dilemma even if not put in quite the same terms.

Politically, while respecting, or at least resigned to at times, the views of the majority, I do think that the people get it wrong sometimes and that government has a role to play in many aspects of life.

Personally, I like being out among the people, At the same time, I can’t believe some of the conduct I witness when I am out among the people.

I thought about this today when in line at a convenience store. The man in front of me bought one of the new $50 Texas lottery scratch-off tickets.

I would not deny the man’s right to buy the ticket. However, I could not figure why he would want to blow $50 on a lottery ticket.

I long ago gave up trying to resolve my Adams/Jackson internal split. All one can do is take each issue and event as it comes.

A great book that includes the Adams/Jackson era of American history is Sean Wilentz’s The Rise Of American Democracy—Jefferson to Lincoln.

Outkast

I have already posted this video but I found a much better copy. So, here you go a 2fer.

BTW, I haven’t mentioned my Dallas Mavericks because they tanked. There is no other way to look at it. They tanked. They had possibly the best chance of winning the NBA title since…well last year and they crap out to Golden State. I get ill thinking about it.  If you are really a superstar and the league MVP, you stand up and take control of a game.  if you are a role player you play your role no matter what.  Dirk was supposed to be a superstar.  Terry was on the verge of being an elite player.  Neither were.  As Clint Eastwood said, in the classic, Heart Break Ridge, “Adapt, overcome, improvise.”  The Dallas Mavericks did neither.

Paula Abdul - Opposites Attract

Do you remember Paula Abdul before she was a lush on American Idol? She was basically a cheerleader (for the LA Lakers) who recorded one album. The songs were carefully chosen. She had 2 or 3 GREAT videos which gave her a couple of top 10 hits. Her second album was a dud, a complete dud. I have no idea if she even made a 3rd CD. I didn’t care by then. She had her 2 minutes of fame. I’m not sure what you would call she has now. Semi-fame? I’m just waiting for her to be on Dancing with the Stars. (I wonder if she could dance with that cat on Dancing with the Stars?)
