Fred Thompson enters the race

This morning on the Bill Press Show, Paul Begala was talking about Fred Thompson getting into the race.  He had several good points.  The R’s are not happy with their front runners.  Fred Thompson may be the right man to come to the rescue.  Republicans, in spite of bashing Hollywood, truly love Hollywood.  Reagan and Aurnold (mis-spelling intended) are 2 examples of how the Right embraces Hollywood.  Heck, for that matter, George Bush is playing the role of a simple man from Texas who loves to clear brush.  Never mind the reality that he grew up in New England and went to some of the best schools in the country.  Unfortunately, for the Republicans, Fred Thompson was not a very distinguished Senator.  He spent something like 18 years as a lobbyist in Washington which should automatically disqualify anyone.  He represented both liberal and conservative causes which means that he was in it for the money and not ideology.  As a matter of fact Fred Thompson helped raise money for Scooter defense fund.  He was out there asking that Scooter be freed.  No jail time.

I’m not sure if Fred Thompson is good or bad in the Republican world.  The bottom-line is that the Democrats have a strong field.  The Republicans do not.

Oh, it is good to see Alison Stewart back filling in for Keith Olbermann.

I keep hearing this empty argument that “Republicans hate Hollywood but they have to go to Hollywood to get their candidates.” How many republican politicians do you think there are in the country? And how many are from the “Hollywood” crowd.. Do the math.

And while we’re at it… Fred Thompson isn’t from Hollywood… he doesn’t live in Hollywood… he wasn’t born in Hollywood… so he sure as hell isn’t from the “Hollywood” crowd. Just because a guy appears in some movies or a TV show doesn’t make him “from Hollywood.” That said… when Republican’s talk about not liking the “Hollywood” crowd they are referring to the left wing nature of they majority in the Hollywood crowd… (Sheen, Stone, Streisand, Soros, Sarandon, etc)… I know… I work there… within the actual zipcode of 90028…

The other baseless attacks on Fred Thompson and calling into question his health and work ethic just show how much of a threat FDT is to the left… I mean they aren’t exactly going after Ron Paul with the same vigor are they? Liberals know that despite their disagreement with FDT’s conservative nature… it’s that conservative nature that will win him the general election… so they just keep harping on the cancer, and his supposed lazy worth ethic. Have you ever worked on a TV series? Not too many lazy people on the set… believe me.

But Fred understands that with each cheap shot from the left… he gets more support from the rest of the political spectrum. He’s almost like Darth Vader… if you strike him down he becomes more powerful than you can imagine.

I agree with Fred States… with one small correction. Regarding his reference to Star Wars, I believe he means to refer to Obe Wan Kanobi, not Darth Vader… Obi Wan became more powerful, for the good. However, I would like to point out that Fred supporters are not Star Wars geeks, but the similarities are undeniable. Also, regarding Ron Paul… HE reminds me of an ewok!

“He represented both liberal and conservative causes which means that he was in it for the money and not ideology.”

    You mean he was… bipartisan?

Because that might mean he’s in it for the country, not just for a specific party’s goals. You know, like John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan (who, while being loyal to their party’s ideals, avoided some of the pitfalls of loyalty).

If he only lobbied for conservative causes, you might have called him a “right wing fringe kook”. It looks like someone just doesn’t like Republicans.

I have nothing against Republicans. Some of my best friends are Republicans.
