Nice tune but he sounds like Nickleback. I’m just saying.

This factory pumped out one mega-hit and another marginal tune.
(Update, I had blogged on this subject before - here.)
The history of the development of Habeas Corpus (From BBC) - Habeas corpus is under attack, say critics of the government’s anti-terror bill. But what is it and why is it so cherished?Habeas corpus (ad subjiciendum) is Latin for “you may have the body” (subject to examination). It is a writ which requires a person detained by the authorities be brought before a court of law so that the legality of the detention may be examined.
The name is taken from the opening words of the writ in medieval times.
Although rarely used nowadays, it can theoretically be demanded by anyone who believes they are unlawfully detained and it is issued by a judge. [Read more →]
I don’t want to speak too soon but we get some things right. Americans can do some things right. Very few man made things are as beautiful as the shuttle taking off.

From NYT:
A patched-up Atlantis blasted off with seven astronauts Friday on the first space shuttle flight of 2007, putting NASA back on track after a run of bad luck and scandal that included a damaging hailstorm and a lurid love triangle.
Its big orange fuel tank covered with white blotches where the foam insulation had been repaired, the spaceship rose from its seaside launch pad with a roar and climbed into a clear and still-brightly lit sky at 7:38 p.m. EDT, setting a course for the international space station. (more…)
This was a real surprise today. General Peter Pace will not be presented to the Senate to renew his tenure. Secretary of Defense Gates explains his reasoning.

From WaPo:
Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates announced today that Marine Gen. Peter W. Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will step down at the end of his two-year term in September, a decision Gates said he made to avoid possibly contentious re-nomination hearings before the Democratically-controlled Congress.
The surprise announcement means Pace will be removed from the nation’s top military post after just two years as chairman, the shortest tenure for a general officer since 1964. Virtually all of the 16 chairmen since 1949 have served at least four years. (more…)
I’m sorry this sounds to good to be true. We make embryonic stem cells without embryos? I have to see more research before I jump on this band wagon.

I’m sorry with the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The lack of education for our children. The stagnant wages that our shrinking middle class “enjoys”. Scooter Libby and his weapons of mass deception. With the President playing word games over Global Warming at the G8, I’m just not all that interested in Paris Hilton. If she is getting a raw deal then I’m sorry. If she isn’t getting punished enough then…I don’t care.
With George Bush content to have the Iraq War drag on and on, some feel that Congress should end the war by cutting off it’s funding.
The concept of Congress attempting to kill the funding for a controversial Executive branch policy is nearly as old as the republic.
The Jay Treaty was intended to tie up with Great Britain some of the last loose ends from the Revolution. The treaty is named after Supreme Court Chief Justice John Jay who was the lead negotiator of the agreement.
(Editor’s note: Without Jay’s Treaty which was vigorously opposed by the Republicans (anti-Federalists), America the beautiful would have been squashed by a complete and total war with Britian. Washington was correct in figuring that this new republic needed a good 20 - 30 years to mature before it would be ready to defend itself (War of 1812).) [Read more →]
