Iraq bridge blown up

Iraqi’s are coming up with new tactics to hamper “the surge.” I had Brain Katulis, Middle East expert from the Center for American Progress, on my radio show a couple of weeks ago. He mentioned that the surge isn’t working. We have no plan to deal with the militia’s. The militias are the problem. They have been the problem for the last several years.

3500 of our good, brave soldiers are dead. What a terrible milestone. If they had died defending our country that would be one thing but they died in Iraq, for what? For What?

After hearing from so many veterans of current and past wars last week, it is important to let those that are there now know that you support them, and those that have served in the past that you appreciate them. (regardless of weather you agree with what they are doing) Some of these men and women that I talked to and heard from were moved to tears just from hearing that people really do care. It is a powerful thing when you know that simple words can make all the difference. My friend came back from his 6th tour of Iraq and the Anbar Province and he said that it has become a game to hunt Americans and the bounty on each one is pretty high and climbing. He is going back in 30 days. What do you think about the proposition to arm the Sunnis? Is that a step to be able to pull out our people?

Arm the Sunnis? The problem in Iraq isn’t that there aren’t enough weapons. There are plenty of weapons everywhere.

Remember that the Sunnis are aligned with Al Qaeda or at least some of the Sunnis are. The Sunnis also have the promise of support from Saudi Arabia.

Here’s what needs to happen. There needs to be a Rodney King moment. Can we all just get along? The Sunnis have to understand that they aren’t going to control again. That isn’t going to happen. The Kurds need to understand that they aren’t going to get an autonomous region because Turkey doesn’t want that. The Shiites need to understand that they can be in charge only as long as they rule thoughtful and in the best interest of everyone. The moolah from oil needs to be shared. No one is going to be happy BUT a deal should be able to be worked out so that no one is pissed. There has to be a political settlement. That will end the fighting. Al Qaeda will be driven out and Iraq’s borders will be secured.

    Thanks for your insightful comments.

If the surge isn’t working which it doesn’t seem to be then what happens to the troops that are there? I can’t see Bush pulling them back from the outposts and the minor towns. That has been the republicans whole story. “It will show the terrorists they can win.” If we withdrawal from the cities and towns. Do you see how they can truely do this? They will have an overlap of divisions this fall. The 1st Calvary was suppose to come home in August but now it might be December. But what was the troop count before the surge? I just can’t see Bush truely bringing a large number home.
