Golden Mosque bombed again
As expected several Sunni mosques were attacked in the wake of this bombing. Oh, did you hear there is a crackdown of violence in Iraq. I wonder how the surge is going. I’m guessing not so well.

It is crazy to think that Americas had this as a policy at one time. It was crazy then and it is crazy now. If you have no principles then this doctrine will work fine. If you have any morals at all then you wound and should not even consider this doctrine.
As usual, The Daily Show has a funny twist to this story.
I’m not sure how we could have screwed this up any more. The uneasy peace was lasting between Lebanon and Israel. Then we told them that kicking some tail in Lebanon would be a cake walk (It is Lebanon not Iran. Nothing.) Well, it was anything but a cakewalk. The violence has only stopped long enough in the last year or so to bury the dead and re-load the rocket launchers.

From NYT:
A powerful bomb exploded at a popular seaside club here on Wednesday, killing a prominent lawmaker and nine other people. It was the deadliest in a string of recent explosions that have rattled this city and shaken its fragile sense of stability.
The bomb, which security authorities say they believe was hidden inside a parked car, exploded as Walid Eido, a Sunni member of Parliament and an outspoken critic of Syria, drove by. He was killed instantly, along with his son and two bodyguards, and six passers-by.
The blast occurred near a crowded amusement park along the Mediterranean; it destroyed an adjacent building and shattered windows nearby at a time when sunbathers and swimmers were returning home from a day at the beach. (more…)

A couple of weeks ago, I posted that the NBA gave the championship to the Spurs when they suspensed Amare Stoudemire for getting up off of the bench. There was a choice. The rules were clearly unfair. But we are where we are. San Antonio has cruised since then. The Cavs are nothing more than a speed bump on the way to the trophy.
This is not what I think of when I think of the NBA. I think of some of the best athletes in the world running, jumping and scoring. Scoring from the top of the key and the corner. Spinning, twisting, falling on the floor and scoring like George Gervin, Bernard King and Rolando Blackman (my favorite Maverick of all-time). Scoring 70 points in a NBA finals game is terrible. These guys can’t shoot. Yes, I like defense but the name of the game … the purpose of the game is to put the ball in the basket.
Commissioner David Stern was crying about the NBA ratings. Why? The referees need to call fouls. Travelling is never called. LeBron got fouled on the last 3 point shot that he took. Hell, if someone did that to me in an airport I would call the police. Stop the fouling and hacking. That’s the problem. There is no scoring in the playoffs. Fans will go and see the Mavs play the Suns because they are fun. Is there anything more beautiful (on a basketball court! It is clear that Marissa Miller, Ana Beatriz Barros or Jessica White are by far more beautiful) than seeing Steve Nash in the open court with 2 guys filling the lanes? Why because you know that he will make the right decision with the ball and either hit the open man or drive it for some wild, crazy , goofy shot that 80% of the time will go in.
I’m not sure what took the Senate and House judiciary committees so long. Maybe they were dotting their I’s and crossing their T’s. Maybe they were hoping that the White House would be reasonable. (just joking)

From NYT:
The Senate and House Judiciary Committees issued subpoenas on Wednesday to Harriet E. Miers, the former White House counsel, and Sara M. Taylor, the former political director, ratcheting up the pressure on the White House to cooperate with the Congressional inquiry into last year’s firings of federal prosecutors.
The White House has rejected previous Congressional requests to interview presidential aides, offering to let them be interviewed in private if no transcript is kept. (more…)
