We are not leaving, part 2
Hello, blogosphere. I have mentioned this before but I guess no one was paying attention. I restated my case 2 days ago but still there are non-believers (see C&L). Let me state it again, we are not leaving Iraq while George Bush is president. Period. On the Charlie Rose show, Condi said, “We are not looking to leave Iraq. That is not why this president went into Iraq…. We are not going to leave Iraq that is not capable of defending itself.”
There are only 2 ways that we can leave Iraq - 1) Have a determined Congress that will not cower to the White House and pass out of Iraq legislation that is iron clad. With spineless Republicans (damn it felt good to type that. We are now seeing that Republicans aren’t strong. They aren’t mighty. They bow to the president whenever and wherever he asks.) this isn’t going to happen. 2) Impeach Bush and Cheney. That’s it. There are no other options.
There is an unwarranted assumption that the Bush administration is just doing a poor job of running the government and the war. They are not– they are doing a brilliant job of ruining the Federal government and selling the country to the highest-bidding multinational corporations while taking their cuts, and assuring their own easy future. Look at all the energy put into planning the Presidential library as compared to the wretched planning for a war. That’s why they do not change course, look for new strategies, or feel any shame or guilt over their “poor performance”. Their plan has nothing to do with running the country like a business, except in as much that it looks like a hostile take-over. The government they envision is a world of rich men lording it over a world teeming with poverty-stricken slave workers. Democracy is truly” on the move”….being driven right out of the country. Impeach now…they have trampled on the Constitution and I doubt that any further action they take will be in the interests of the American people.
