Interview with Senator Tom Daschle

I interviewed Senator Daschle just before the mid-term elections in October of last year.  We talked about his long term as Democratic leader of the Senate.  He discussed the Patriot Act and the new powers that the White House wanted to stuff into the bill at the last minute.  These new powers were rejected but later approved by the more compliant and less constitutional loving Republican Congress.  Very informative interview.  Give it a listen.

En Vogue - Free your mind

This group seemed to become a supergroup overnight.  They exploded out of the gates with their first album - Born to SingHold on and Lies were 2 singles from this record.  Their 2nd album was bigger than their first.  Funky Divas

They were beautiful and talented.  Many of their songs had meaning like this one - Free Your Mind which is a cover of a George Clinton (of Parliament fame) tune.  They combined funk, hip-hop and rock and roll to get a great sound.  After their 3rd album, Runaway, they kind lost their momentum and never did find their groove again.  One of their orginal members left in 1997.  There was a couple of hits after 1997 but as BB King would put it - The Thrill is Gone.

Data Mining misused as we predicted

From PC World:

The FBI is using data mining programs to track everyone from potential terrorists to individuals who file fraudulent automobile insurance claims, according to a U.S. Department of Justice report filed with Congress this week.

The DOJ report, which is required under the Patriot Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005, details six pattern-based data mining initiatives currently under way or planned by the department and its components. “Each of these initiatives is extremely valuable for investigators, allowing them to analyze and process lawfully acquired information more effectively in order to detect potential criminal activity and focus resources appropriately,” a DOJ spokesman said in an e-mailed statement.
