Here is your marine life in the news round-up.

The Gulf of Mexico “dead zone” is bigger than ever. It now covers areas close to Galveston Bay.

A seagull in Scotland has been caught on video while stealing from a small shop.

Giant squid are occurring in great numbers off the coast of California.

Japan is killing pregnant whales.

An Indonesian fisherman offered additional details about his capture of the prehistoric coelacanth fish two months ago.

The above picture is of a whale shark. Whale sharks keep dying at the Georgia Aquarium because they are really meant to live in the wild. Would you like to live in a tank or in a cage?

Obama speaks the truth

Some of the progressives calling in to the Ed Schultz Show flipped out over Obama’s statement today. He said something like if Musharraf will not take care of the terrorists in Pakistan and we had actionable intelligence then we would. Progressives on the Ed Schultz show went crazy. They accused Barack of throwing diplomacy down the toilet. Nothing could be further from the truth. This clip goes out of their way to say that this has been the White House’s position all along. If killing or capturing Osama Bin Laden has been a priority then why haven’t we done it yet?

Bridge Collapse in Mn

Very sad. How does a bridge in a major city collapse? I’m just asking. It seems to me that there should be a few things in life that we, Americans, can count on. Bridges not collapsing should be one of them.

Pray for the victims and the survivors.

From CNN.com:

At least six people were killed when an interstate bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota, collapsed Wednesday evening, plunging cars and chunks of concrete into the Mississippi River below.

There were “lots” of injuries, the state Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department said.

Local hospitals put the number of people hurt at 37 so far.

The accident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. (7 p.m. ET). There were 50 to 100 cars on the bridge at the time, according to early estimates. Witnesses described a “dust cloud” as the bridge collapsed. (more…)

This could be a really frequent series of posts.

TedStevens Know your most-recently-investigated Republican

Ted Stevens, as E pointed out a bit earlier, is the latest GOPer to come under the microscope.  The senior Senator from Alaska had his house raided by the IRS and the FBI the other day because of accusations that his remodeling project had been in part paid for by Veco, an oil-field service company, who has recently had a couple top executives plead guilty to federal conspiracy, bribery and tax charges.   We’ll just let this investigation run its course before we jump to any conclusions about innocence or guilt, but we’ll also take this moment to educate people about some of his prior highlights/lowlights.
