Tony Bennett
I’m going out of town. I’m taking my 3 year old grandson back to his momma.
I’ll leave you with a great tune and an odd combination. I would have never figured Elvis Costello and Tony Bennett. The combo works beautifully.

Alex Rodriguez is another great player who I just don’t like that much. He has GREAT numbers but … in the playoffs is disappears. From my standpoint, if he was great he would have taken the Texas Rangers to the promise land. Heck, he would have rose up for Yankees if he was great but he didn’t. In spite of my criticism, Alex is one the best non-pressure players of all-time.

From ESPN.com:
Alex Rodriguez leaned to his right and watched the ball as it sailed toward the foul pole in left. When it stayed true, he threw up his hands — the long wait for No. 500 was finally over.
Rodriguez became the youngest player in major league history to hit 500 home runs, connecting on the first pitch he saw Saturday to end a 10-day wait. (more…)
No rapper has a voice like Tone Loc. Although Tone Loc only had 2 hits. They were both HUGE. Wild Thing.
Look Barry Bonds is a jerk. He is a very hard public figure to like. In spite of this he just hit 755. He and Hank Aaron are the only 2 to ever do that. Stand and clap. What about his steroid usage? What about it? All players use performance enhancing stuff. Whether it is a nutritionist to improve your diet in order to play better or it is fancy shoes in order to run faster and grip the ground better. They all use something. Mark McGuire did it. Roger Clements is currently doing it and getting away with it.
Bug Selig is also a jerk. If you are the baseball head guru and you go to the games then stand and clap. If you ain’t going to clap then go home.
This was a great class. Bruce Matthews should get into the Hall on longevity alone. Thurman Thomas was a great back He had great hands. He was fast and had the ability to cut on a dime. Roger Wehrli was a great safety that played for the Cardinals. I don’t remember Charlie Sanders nor Gene Hickerson.

From ESPN.com:
The Pro Football Hall of Fame induction became a family affair Saturday night.
Michael Irvin lauded the Dallas Cowboys family for inspiring him to make it to Canton. Thurman Thomas asked his wife to marry him again. Charlie Sanders finally got to say “Hi Mom.”
Bruce Matthews campaigned to have his brother, Clay, join him in the hall. Roger Wehrli praised the timing of his election because it allowed his grandchildren to share the special moment.
And Gene Hickerson’s son, Bob, accepted on behalf of his father, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. Then Gene was brought onto the stage in a wheelchair guided by former teammates Jim Brown, Leroy Kelly and Bobby Mitchell — all running backs he helped get into the hall. (more…)
I’m a Dallas Cowboy fan. I’m not one of those fans that jumped on the band wagon because the Cowboys won in the 90′s. I grew up in Big D. I went to my first Cowboy game in 1966 with my father in the Cotton Bowl. I saw Danny Don Meredith, who was one of the greatest leaders that the Cowboys has ever had. I have seen Roger. I have met Rayfield Wright. Heck, he lived down the street from us in the late 60′s. I remember seeing Tony Dorsett run. I remember Landry being so upset that Dorsett wouldn’t hit the hole that play was designed for. Instead, Tony ran to daylight.
I remember wondering why we picked Troy Aikman. I didn’t think that he was all that great in college. We also chose Steve Walsh. I thought he was the better quarterback. That’s why I’m a better fan than coach. Why did we choose Emmitt Smith? He wasn’t that big. He was rather slow. He did have some nice numbers but that was college. Michael Irvin? Miami was such an impressive team I don’t remember Michael being that special.
I don’t think that you can truly appreciate the greatness of Michael Irvin until you watch him in the playoffs and big games. Everyone in the whole world knew that he was going to get the ball. Somehow, some way he got open or rather open enough to get to the ball. Aikman would deliver a blue laser and Irvin would haul it in. First down.
Some dude who was filling in for Mike and Mike in the morning on ESPN on Friday said that Michael Irvin was a weak vote for the Hall of Fame. He then said that Michael couldn’t hold Marvin Harrison’s jock strap. Umm, wrong. Let’s look at Marvin’s numbers in the playoffs. What numbers you ask? Exactly. Marvin disappeared for years in the playoffs. Michael was there in the playoffs, bigger than life. He was ready and he was talkin’ trash. He wasn’t going to disappear. He was going to will himself to be great.
Michael Irvin was the heart of the Cowboys for nearly 10 years. He was the emotional leader. He was the one that got the guys emotionally ready to play. He was the one that pushed them to give Troy just a little more time. He was the one that ask the O-line to hold their blocks just a fraction of a second longer and promised them that Emmitt would find the hole. He was the one that told Troy that he would get open.
In spite of all of his trials and wrong doing, Michael Irvin was great on the field. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame because he helped carry the Cowboys to 3 SuperBowls in 4 years.
