Cincinnati, Houston, Venus—Hot As Hell

mgn_p39146 Cincinnati, Houston, Venus---Hot As Hell

I’m just back from a week in Cincinnati. (Everyone vacations in Cincinnati—Right?) Every day I was there it was hot. On two days of my trip it reached 100 degrees.

Now back home in Houston, it is expected to be at least 100 each of the next two days.

It’s not just Earth where it is hot.

According to the 2006 New York Times Almanac, the average surface temperature on Venus is 867 degrees.

( I’ll leave it to you to decide if the above picture is of Cincinnati, Houston or Venus)

Says the Times Almanac—”The clouds and the high level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have combined to trap heat in the lower atomosphere of venus. This is an extreme form of the greenhouse effect….”

Some think life might be possible on Venus. A theory exists that microbes from a long ago ocean on Venus may have found a home up in the swirling hot clouds of that planet.

Venus can be called the “morning star” because it is one of the brightest objects in the sky.

In his sermon “The Three Dimensions of a Complete Life“, Martin Luther King says that you might wish to see God as a “bright and morning star” in your life.

King saw the three dimensions of a complete life as rational self-concern, concern for others and loving God.

The three planets closest to the sun are Mercury, Venus and the Earth.

Markos on Meet the Press

Markos Moulitsas and Harold Ford were on Meet the Press this morning. They were discussing the direction of the Democratic Party. Overall I think it was a good discussion. Harold Ford, representing the Democratic Leadership Council, was promoting the accomplishments of President Clinton. Markos, representing netroots, basically said be proud to be a Democrat. Markos clear stated that it was not about him. Instead, it was about thousands of energized Democrats who participate in forums like the YearlyKos and chat on-line on blogs like the Daily Kos.

Personally, I liked the discussion. For me it is about triangulation verses I know what’s right now I just have to convince the people. I don’t like triangulation politics. The country has moved too far to the right for the end result to be some middle ground.

C&L’s Nicole illustrated this point in the conversation -

DailyKos founder Markos Moulitisas Zuniga did a great job making DLC Chairman Harold Ford look weak on this morning’s Meet The Press. Towards the end of the segment, Ford, perhaps sensing that Markos had the better of him, reverts to Republican talking points (surprise!):

FORD: I want to do nothing more than ensure that progressive causes and interests are advanced. I want nothing more –and I know you do as well-want Democrats to win…We do nothing but help Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani when we argue essentially over semantics…

MOULITSAS: Will you stop going on FOXNews and attacking Harry Reid for abandoning the troops, betraying the troops? Because you just did that a couple of days ago…

FORD: Markos, in all fairness, your site has posted awful things about Jewish Americans…

MOULITSAS: That’s not true…

FORD: Your site has…now you have a site about…something about Cindy Sheehan, she uses it as a…she has a heavy presence there in talking about running against….

MOULITSAS: It’s called “democracy.” If you don’t like regular people, hundreds of thousands of people…you’re gonna have…

FORD: No, I love it…but you can’t be critical of us…

MOULITSAS: Of course…you’re not going to control hundreds of thousands of voices. Your organization has a dozen people, you CAN control that message. And you don’t need to attack Democrats.

All that I can say is that Markos has come a very long way in a very short period of time. He was polished and thoughtful. He was not the raving loon that O’Reilly paints.

Kanye West - Stronger

I don’t know.  I don’t really feel like a long statement on rap.  All I know is that for weeks I have been looking for a rap video that didn’t promote negative stereotypes.  Let’s see there was Sean Kingston where every 4th word is deleted and he is talking about getting out of prison and getting with some babe.  I listened to the video twice before I put it back on the shelve.  I looked at a couple of others.  Mr. West it is.
