Britain is pulling out of Iraq

Britain is doing what we need to do. Leave and declare victory.

From LAT:

Britain will cut its forces in Iraq by about half in the spring, shrinking the commitment of America’s leading military partner to just 2,500 troops whose engagement will be limited mainly to training Iraqi forces, Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Monday.

The proposed withdrawal goes much further than the reduction of 1,000 troops that the prime minister announced in Baghdad last week. It also sets the stage for Britain’s exit as an active combat participant in the still-troubled region of southern Iraq where its troops are based. (more…)

Iraqis are trying to kick Blackwater out, again

Blackwater Copter - Getty ImagesI wish the Iraqis well. They have been trying to kick out Blackwater for over 3 weeks. The problem that the Iraqis have is that they aren’t in charge. We are. The US government is in charge. Condoleezza Rice is in charge. The Bush Administration is in charge. (Again, proving that we don’t truly want a democracy in Iraq.)

From AP:

Iraqi authorities want the U.S. government to sever all contracts in Iraq with Blackwater USA within six months. They also want the firm to pay $8 million in compensation to families of each of the 17 people killed when its guards sprayed a traffic circle with heavy machine gun fire last month.

The demands — part of an Iraqi government report examined by The Associated Press — also called on U.S. authorities to hand over the Blackwater security agents involved in the Sept. 16 shootings to face possible trial in Iraqi courts. (more…)

Romo verses Aikman

Tonight would not have happened to Troy Aikman. When Aikman played badly, the Dallas Cowboys lost. Now, understand what I’m saying. Aikman was a much different quarterback. Aikman was not a gunslinger. Aikman was a surgeon. He was on target and on time. When Aikman was not playing well, the Cowboys lost. That didn’t happen often.

Tony Romo was awful tonight. I started taking Phenergan (anti-nausea med) last in the first quarter as Romo threw 3 interceptions. 3! 2 of the interceptions were run back for touchdowns. Let me tell you what I saw. The Cowboys defense stepped up. Buffalo was 3 of 13 on 3rd down. They held the Bills to only 229 total yards.

Unfortunately, Romo was not done with the turnovers. He had 2 more interceptions and a fumble. OMG!! What an awful night. Somehow with the defense crashing Buffalo’s offense, Romo had a chance to redeem himself. He played great on the stretch. The Cowboys won with a last second field goal; 25 - 24. I did have 2 heart attacks.

Update: As a matter of fact, Romo is more like Roger Staubach if we are going to stay with the Cowboy analogy.  Staubach could have a bad game then turn “it” on in the 4th quarter. In order the Cowboys to keep the game close against the Patriots, they are going to have to play error free ball.  The Patriots will try and confuse Tony Romo will weird looks and blitzes.  With 5 turnovers we will lose 60 - 3.   On the other hand, if we can score early and make the Patriots play from behind AND no turnovers then we can do something special.

The difference between being good and great

A-Rod Strikes out

There are those out there that continually point to Alex Rodriquez‘ regular season’s huge numbers and say that he is one of the best ever. I continually point out that the great players play great in the crutch. Great players make others great. Alex Rodriquez needed to go 5 for 5 or 4 for 5 but he didn’t. He needed to hit with guys on base. He didn’t. I will concede that Alex Rodriguez is one of the best of all time but in the clutch I’ll take Boston’s David Ortiz who hit .714 when his team needed him. I’ll take Reggie Jackson who almost all ways made the big hit in the clutch.

So, the Cleveland Indians move on the New York Yankees are out. In my opinion the Yankees will need to get rid of A-rod if they want to win another world series. He will not and can not carry a team.
