Israel attacks Syria

I didn’t hear anything about this.  Last month, Israel attacked suspected nuclear reactor in Syria.  Wow.  Where was the international media?  NY Times?  Washington Post?  Now, Israel is a country that understands how to keep a secret. I’ll have to read more on this story but it appears at first glance that Israel has made the right more.

From NYT:

Israel’s air attack on Syria last month was directed against a site that Israeli and American intelligence analysts judged was a partly constructed nuclear reactor, apparently modeled on one North Korea has used to create its stockpile of nuclear weapons fuel, according to American and foreign officials with access to the intelligence reports.

The description of the target addresses one of the central mysteries surrounding the Sept. 6 attack, and suggests that Israel carried out the raid to demonstrate its determination to snuff out even a nascent nuclear project in a neighboring state. The Bush administration was divided at the time about the wisdom of Israel’s strike, American officials said, and some senior policy makers still regard the attack as premature.  (more…)

Hillary is on Countdown

Keith Olbermann speaks with Senator Hillary Clinton about FISA. The Dems seems to be willing to roll over and let the Bush administration and telecom companies off the hook. I really don’t understand that. If you break the law you should have to pay some type of penalty.

They discuss the problem of the middle class squeeze. Senator Clinton does a pretty good job at talking about her collection of proposals to help the middle class.

Is it me or does Senator Clinton seem completely wooden?  Come on! You are on Countdown.  You are on a progressive show.  There won’t be any sneaky questions.  Why is she looking around like people are moving around behind the camera?  Focus.  Be relaxed.  Be Presidential!!

Part of Transcript:

OLBERMANN: When the Democrats went to someone of that group, the 12-year-old car accident victim, Graham Frost, to answer the president on the SCHIP health care program and the radio speeches, this poor kid was eviscerated by the far right. His family‘s address home was posted online. He‘s gotten death threats for merely having become involved in the political process.

Is there some sense here that maybe the greatest threat right now to the middle class is not economics or health-related issues, but getting too involved in politics when politics are as toxic as they seem to be at the moment?

CLINTON: Well, Keith, think about why these people on the right and the Republicans whom they support are doing this? It‘s because they don‘t want the changes that middle-class Americans need and deserve.

I was appalled at the way this young man and his family were treated. And I said last night in Boston, “You know, as someone who has been pretty used to taking the incoming fire from the right, I‘m—I‘m willing to take it. I‘m big enough. I can keep going and not worry too much about it, as I‘ve proven over the years”.

But to turn on this young man and to impugn him and his family for telling their true story—that there are millions of hard-working families in America—we‘re not talking about poor families who are eligible for Medicaid, we‘re talking about families who work, whose employers don‘t help them buy insurance. We‘re talking about families who can‘t go into the so-called individual market and afford the average $12,000/year family policy. And they‘re left without help unless we have a program like the children‘s insurance program, which I helped to start 10 years ago.

And what we did, on a bipartisan basis, was to extend that coverage to more middle-class families, and to get them the relief they need to take care of their children when illness or injury strikes. (more…)

Cowboys shoot themselves in the arm

I’ll have more on this game after I can look at the final stats. The Cowboys for 2 1/2 quarters played as Cowboy fans expected. They were able to move the ball. New England was able to move the ball. The Defense played okay. They gave Dallas an opportunity to win. It was the offense’s penalties that killed the Cowboys today. 1 Billion penalties (12 for 98 yards). penalties killed drives. First downs were turned into 3rd and longs. First and 10 was magically transformed into first and 20. You can’t beat New England if you do that. They are and have proved that they are very good.

The last touchdown was typical Belichick. Or would that be better stated if I said that Belichick was making a statement. He is saying to the league that he and the New England Patriots are the best. Great (add your own sarcasm).

The Cowboys need to think very hard about the rest of the season. They will need to improve their secondary. They have to stop penalties. On the offensive side of the ball, we just need to be more consistent. We need Terry Glenn or another fast receiver. Patrick Clayton is a good third receiver but we need someone to pull some double team coverage away from TO. So, I suspect that the offense will get better. They have to start faster. They need to look at how Aikman got to the Hall of Fame. Start fast. Decrease the pressure on your defense. Increase the pressure on the other guy’s offense.  Finally, they have to stop the penalties.
