Cowboys fumble their way past the Vikings

I have a little work to do right now like the Cowboys. The Cowboys offense came out on fire. Their defense was flat footed and slow. The Cowboys some how got a win (because Minnesota can’t throw the football).

Here’s what I said before the game - I look for Dallas to come out focused and ready to play. I thought that the Bills game was going to be a walk in the park. It wasn’t. Therefore, Dallas will need to eliminate turnovers and stop stupid penalties. Dallas will try to start fast in order to encourage the Vikings to pack it in early and go home.

Sweet. I was 100% correct. The Cowboys did try and start fast. They used a hurry up thru their first drive. They marched down the field and scored a touchdown. Cool. Pressure was on the Vikings offense and Adrian Peterson (12 carries for 63 yds and 1 td). The Vikings came out like they were a playoff team. They ran the ball down the Cowboys’ throats. They threw little dump off passes in the middle of the field and receivers got the first down. From 20 yards out, Peterson goes off of left tackle, he breaks 2 tackles on the way to the endzone. The first quarter is over.

In the 2nd quarter the Cowboys dominated ever stat including the turnover column. This gave Minnesota the impression that they could win. The Vikings defense was bending but not breaking. Dallas had 4 possessions in the quarter. They ended with 2 fumbles, a punt and a missed 50 yard field goal. One of the fumbles were returned for a touchdown. The half ends with the Cowboys trailing 14 - 7 in spite of Tony Romo lighting up the Vikings’ secondary for 231 yards, one TD (28 of 32). Now, that’s crazy. [Read more →]

Alberto still in hot water

gonzo Alberto still in hot water

Several folks (here, here and here) noticed an article the SpokesmanReview.  Alberto Gonzales wasn’t out of Washington before he hired a Washington criminal defense attorney.  Things that make you go humm… ?

It appears that the inspector general, Glenn Fine, is continuing to investigate the dismissal of the US Attorneys but he is also looking into the warrantless wiretapping program (domestic spying) and the possibility that Alberto lied to Congress.

It would be nice to see real justice happen at the Justice Department but I’m not going to hold my breath.

From SR:

The U.S. Inspector General may recommend criminal prosecution of departed Attorney General Alberto Gonzales at the conclusion of an investigation, possibly as early as next month, the fired former U.S. attorney for Western Washington told a Spokane audience Friday.

His refusal to open a federal criminal investigation into voter fraud allegations in Gov. Chris Gregoire’s razor-thin victory over Republican challenger Dino Rossi in 2004 may be the reason he was fired, John McKay told the Federal Bar Association.  (more…)

Cowboys - Vikings

The Dallas Cowboys should be able to handle the Minnesota Vikings without a problem on Sunday. The Vikings secondary is ranked last in the NFL. Because of that, I expect that the Cowboys will try again to run the ball. I know that it doesn’t make sense but that’s what I think that they’ll do. I look for them to pound the ball inside with that huge offensive line. This should open up the play action pass.

Dallas’ pass defense isn’t last in the league but they have been exposed for the second time this year. New England torched them. They will get better with the return of Anthony Henry but that will not be this week. Hamlin has not shown the cover ability that I was hoping for. I thought that he could give Roy Williams some help. He is barely holding his own. Minnesota is starting a rookie quarterback with a couple of receivers that seem to allergic to catching the ball. In spite of Adrian Peterson and his greatness, I suspect that Dallas’ front seven will control the line of scrimmage.

I look for Dallas to come out focused and ready to play. I thought that the Bills game was going to be a walk in the park. It wasn’t. Therefore, Dallas will need to eliminate turnovers and stop stupid penalties. Dallas will try to start fast in order to encourage the Vikings to pack it in early and go home.

Great game breakdown here.

Bhutto condemns bomb attack

Bhutto spoke for the first time since the attempted assassination.  She is a brave women.  My question is how did the bombing happen?  It is clear that there are several groups that seriously would like to kill her.  So, why was security so slack?  A low moving bus?  Crowds of people crammed the streets making it impossible to maneuver the vehicle.  I don’t get it.  That’s a set up, isn’t it?

Outstanding summary of events here.

From MSNBC:

Benazir Bhutto blamed al-Qaida and Taliban militants Friday for the assassination attempt against her that killed at least 136 people, and declared she would risk her life to restore democracy in Pakistan and prevent an extremist takeover.

The former premier presented a long list of foes who would like to see her dead — from loyalists of a previous military regime that executed her politician father to Islamic hard-liners bent on stopping a female leader from modernizing Pakistan.  (more…)

US Representative Bobby Jindal wins

I spent more than 10 years of my life in Louisiana. It is a place that near and dear to my heart. It is also a place that needs some help. It is a poor state with a terrible education record. Yep, there are some great people in Louisiana. they just need a little help. I have no idea if Bobby Jindal a republican from a New Orleans suburb can do the trick. I wish him well.

The Lt. Governor is a very familiar face - Mitch Landreiu. He goes from a Louisiana political family. He is a democrat with deep ties to the Louisiana political machine. Hopefully, the Governor and Lt. Governor can work together to help New Orleans and the Gulf Coast and their state.

Update:  I found this post on Bobby Jindal.   Looks like he isn’t that good at keeping his word.  Disappointing.

From AP:

U.S. Rep. Bobby Jindal won the Louisiana governor’s race Saturday, becoming the nation’s youngest governor and the first non-white to hold the state’s post since Reconstruction.

Jindal, the 36-year-old Republican son of Indian immigrants, carried more than half the vote against 11 opponents. With about 87 percent of the vote in, Jindal had 53 percent with 588,002 — more than enough to win outright and avoid a Nov. 17 runoff. (more…)
