California fires

Whenever a burn unit is bracing for more patients, you know you have a serious fire situation. Several sections around San Diego have been evacuated - Scripps Ranch, Del Mar.

Wow, this is bad. Very bad. Just keep telling yourself - there is no global warming. There is no global warming. This is all part of the cycle. NOT!!

From San Diego Tribute Union:

Hundreds of homes were reduced to ashes Monday as wildfires blown by fierce desert winds raced across a huge swath of Southern California extending from Malibu to the Mexican border, forcing a quarter of a million people to flee.

At least one person was killed and dozens injured by more than a dozen blazes that formed a hellish, spidery pattern of luminous orange covering at least 521 square miles of the drought-stricken region.

The news got worse as the day wore on: Soon after nightfall, fire officials announced that 500 homes and 100 commercial properties had been destroyed by a fire in northern San Diego County that exploded to 145,000 acres, said Roxanne Provaznik, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry. Countdown - Alberto

For some reason, many liberal blogs haven’t picked up this story.  They should.  On the other hand, maybe they are so deflated after the Scooter Libby thing.  Maybe they are trying to do what it appears the Democratic Congress is doing, waiting until after the November election to fix everything.

We need to continue to try to do the right thing.  We need to continue to support the constitution.  We need to continue to hold hearings.  We need to continue to investigate.  Democrats have to be against torture and for human rights while at the same time be against terrorists.

I posted a lot about the Justice Department investigating Alberto Gonzales a couple of days ago.

Countdown - Worst Person

What happened?  Countdown got a new look?  They are still trying to find the right background for Keith Olbermann.

Anyway, Tom Gross of the National Review wins today’s worst person in the world but stating that George Bush because of his stance with Iran may have prevented World War III.  Yeah, right.  Bill is in second place for being the blow hard that he is and last but not least is Glenn Beck who I personally find to be much like Ann Coulter.  He seems to be able to say and do anything to be ultra conservative or controversial.
