What border security?
The Bush administration has been pounding the table about security and the lessons of 9-11. Besides exploiting 9-11 what did the Bush administration learn? They learned how not to find their best weapon against the democrats - Osama Bin Laden. They learned how to talk tough and do nothing but line the pockets of corporations like Halliburton and Blackwater USA.
I wonder how many terrorists can hide in a crowd of 21,000?

Government watchdogs have found that thousands of people who shouldn’t have been admitted to the United States were mistakenly allowed in last year because of security lapses at legal border crossings.
The number of inadmissible aliens who managed to enter through official ports of entry in 2006 was not disclosed in Monday’s report from the Government Accountability Office.
However, a source who has seen a full version of the report, in which those statistics were included, put the total at 21,000. (more..)
That’s the best thing I’ve heard coming out of the Bush regime in a long time. This War on Illegals is much like our War on Drugs. Both have starkly racist origins, both violate fundamental civil liberties (cognitive liberty, liberty of movement) for “the greater good”, both fight negative consequences of their targets that would largely disappear if you stopped the wars, both have the government destroy thousands upon thousands of innocent lives in collateral damage, and both sap the money and morality of the American people.
The only thing worse than an incompetent government is a competent government.

you are exactly correct.
When my son went into Canada this spring during springbreak. They stripped his car down -pulled the seats out and dumped everything. They made him prove he had enough money in his bank account to visit their country. He did not have an atm receipt with his bank balance at the time and made him drive 45 miles to the nearest atm machine. He did not have a passport and drilled him where he was going and staying for 30 minutes. This is how we should allow people into our country. My son did not look as this as harrassment he said it is their country they can ask me for anything they want.
But when he came back into the US they only asked him for his drivers license. Didn’t care what he brought back with him.
Now my son has long hair, and a long beard wears all black and has a danzac devil on the hood of his car. I never understood why our border patrol didn’t even ask for any other proof of his citizenship or even want to look in his car. Yeah he could have smuggled anything or anybody in…
