Countdown - Huckabee and Giuliani
Former Governor Mike Huckabee and former mayor Rudy Giuliani spent the weekend defending themselves. Huckabee is still answering questions on the Wayne Dumond case ( a convicted rapist who was released from jail early while Huckabee was governor, Dumond subsequently raped and killed another woman). This weekend his comments on AIDS have surfaced. His 1992 comments about isolating people with HIV and AIDS revealed an extreme part of his personality that voters haven’t seen.
Meanwhile, Rudy Giuliani was getting beat up by Tim Russert on Meet the Press. (I find it interesting to see who Tim throws softballs and who he brings the heat to.) Rudy has had such a collection of bad press, Russert had a huge selection to chose from.

Hard not to gloat as GOPers flee like cockroaches at the scandal of the day. Huckabee promoting himself as a “family values” guy makes me even more sceptical, in light of all the hypocrisy the family values guys have done. The fact that he is a minister, too, is worrying. Now, the opposite personality, Giuliani would be a good candidate - in the sense he would be easier to beat.
Just look at the GOP field. Each of the candidates have a huge down side. then again, maybe the problem is the Republican party. An ideal candidate must appeal to the fiscal conservatives, Christian conservatives, the crime and punishment conservatives and finally the unbridled business wing. Now, that is a tough combo to quell.
