Our civilized country

What a yawn. The answers were predictable. There really weren’t any sharp exchanges. Fred Thompson was either too old, too disinterested or too tired to raise his hand for or against Global Warming.
Here are the “highlights”.

From McClatchy News:
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee emerged unscathed from a surprisingly docile debate Wednesday, as rivals passed on their last chance to challenge the new front-runner face to face before Iowa kicks off voting in three weeks for the Republican presidential nomination.
Huckabee appeared to benefit both from chief rival Mitt Romney’s refusal to criticize him in person, and from the debate moderator, who didn’t allow any interaction between candidates and cut off discussion when rivals went after each other.
Huckabee still faces criticism, particularly from a TV ad Romney started airing in Iowa this week accusing him of being soft on the children of illegal immigrants in Arkansas. (more…)
Are you losing track of all of the Bush Administration’s scandals? Well, Keith Olbermann of Countdown has a new segment of his show called Bushed! He will review just a few of the over 40 scandals. In this clip, he reviews Habeas Corpus; the air quality report from the EPA right after 9/11 and last week’s NIE.
Ike Turner had it all. He was big with hits in the 50’s. He really hit it big when joined up with Tina Turner (her really name was Anna Mae Bullock). The hits just kept on rolling. Unfortunately, the HITS did keep on coming. Ike Turner will be known as one of the most controlling wife beaters in show business. That’s his legacy. Sad but true.

From RS:
Music legend Ike Turner, best remembered for his successful musical partnership and stormy marriage to singer Tina Turner, has died at home in California, his manager said Wednesday. He was 76.
Turner, often credited by music historians with writing the first Rock and Roll record, 1951’s “Rocket 88,” died at his home in San Marcos, manager Scott Hanover confirmed to AFP.
“He passed away this morning,” Hanover, of Thrill Entertainment Group, said from his office in Florida. (more…)

Former Governor Mike Huckabee has jumped into the foreground of the Republican nomination. He is suddenly getting attention - good and bad. There is that rapist that he let out of prison. Then there was that 1992 AIDS statement that he won’t retract. Now, there is a statement that he has signed about a wife being subservient to her husband.
(Oh, yeah, right. That would go over very well around here. NOT!!!)
In the NFL receivers are a special breed. As a rule they are egomaniacs. In this corner, I will present Keyshawn Johnson who wrote (I doubt he actually wrote anything, it was probably dictated and ghost written) the book, Give me the Damn Ball. In the other corner, we have Terrell Owens who is enjoying his best season. He has been quiet most of the season. He hasn’t really gone off.
It appears that Keyshawn flapped his mouth on NFL Countdown. He was taking up for his coach, Bill Parcells. T.O. shot back a little quip. Keyshawn never one to back down returned the volley. This brings us to this clip. Reporters would die if they didn’t stir up some stuff, so a reporter asked T.O. about Keyshawn’s comments. T.O. does a pretty good job of answering the question and presenting stats. Keyshawn, on the other hand, comes off as foolish as he has to revert back to something that his grandmother said.

Immigrant-basher Tom Tancredo is a U.S. Representative from Colorado and a candidate for the Republican Presidential nomination.
As a member of the Colorado House, Mr. Tancredo was a member of a group called “the crazies.” These were representatives engaged in extreme tax cutting in Colorado. Before joining Congress, Mr. Tancredo was head of a libertarian think tank.
Congressman Tancredo has written the book In Mortal Danger about immigration to the United States. ( That title might also cover the genocide of Native Americans that made white settlement in Colorado possible.) He has called Miami a “third-world country.” Mr. Tancredo wants to tax money that immigrants send back home. He may feel Mexico is not poor enough already.

The administration and some news outlets (Fox) have been trying to get us to believe that Iraq is safer. I’m surprised that they haven’t offered a vacation package for various areas of Iraq with Brittney Spears being one of the tour guides.
Seems that it ain’t all that safe. Car bomb went off today. Well, not one car bomb but FOUR! Yesterday another car bomb went off, this time in Baghdad.
More later.
