Iraq is safer

art.iraq.blast.ap Iraq is safer

The administration and some news outlets (Fox) have been trying to get us to believe that Iraq is safer.  I’m surprised that they haven’t offered a vacation package for various areas of Iraq with Brittney Spears being one of the tour guides.

Seems that it ain’t all that safe.  Car bomb went off today.  Well, not one car bomb but FOUR!  Yesterday another car bomb went off, this time in Baghdad.

More later.

  1. “Deaths are down.” That’s how we now “measure success” - a mistake we made in Vietnam - when we couldn’t win that war. By Uncle Walter’s nightly Vietcong death count we’d killed them daily in the thousands!

Here, it’s not a question of “who did we kill” - it’s how many of ours *didn’t* die. Gosh. What kind of reasoning is that.

At any rate, the real issue is: How long will this surge - which was simply putting existing troops back into certain areas of Iraq will be complete? As Bush gives no time line - it’s pretty obvious - “as long as he’s in office” and he prays they can maintain some control while his “part-time” efforts to prop up a government in Iraq blunders on.

  2. Bush will be haunted by this war for many, many years, and our collective consciousness will, too, just like Vietnam. The terms used in this administration would make Mr Orwell roll in his grave. Ministry of Disinformation at it again, I see. We should get out, admit defeat based on bad intell., but then again, that would be “cut and run” wouldn’t it?

  3. Iraq will be safer when the Muslims are done killing each other, which means when they are all dead.

Religion is the source of most killings. Just look at the middle east. The only way out of it is to ban all religion or to let them kill each other off.
