CNN calls Ron Paul for racist newsletter
So, I got raked over the coals by a commenter for “not doing my homework” with regard to a post which stated that Ron Paul’s newsletter had racist writings. First, the facts, there are things that have been written in the Ron Paul Newsletter that are clearly offensive. The newsletter stereotypes Blacks and Homosexuals. Over the years, Ron Paul has had varying explanations about his newsletter. In 1996, the Houston Chronicle asked him about the newsletter. “Paul said allegations about his writings amounted to name-calling by the Democrats and that his opponents should focus instead on how to shrink government spending and reform welfare.” Please note that in that Houston Chronicle article Ron Paul never mentions that he didn’t write the article. He doesn’t mention that some else wrote the article.
Now, fast forward to 2008. The same articles are being called into question. Ron Paul states flatly that he is for the individual no matter what color. He states that he didn’t write the article and, here’s the best part, he doesn’t know who did. The Editor of the New York Times has to take responsibility for everything that 100’s of writers write. Ron Paul, Dr. Personal Responsibility (one of the core believes of libertarians), will not take responsibility for his own newsletter. As a matter of fact, he admits that he doesn’t even read the newsletter that bears his name. Look at least man up and take some responsibility for something that has your name plastered around its front. I would have more respect for the man if he said, “Look, Wolf, it was a long time ago. I was approached by what I thought were like minded individuals to publish a newsletter. I really wasn’t a part of the operation but the newsletter had my name on it. I accept full responsibility. After, these articles were published, it became clear to me that I had to part ways with the guy who actually published the newsletter in my name. I apologize to any one who was hurt by this newsletter. This doesn’t reflect me or my values.” Is this answer a cop out? Sure, but it is better than the Schultz defense - “I know nothing.”

From CNN.com:
A series of newsletters in the name of GOP presidential hopeful Ron Paul contain several racist remarks — including one that says order was restored to Los Angeles after the 1992 riots when blacks went “to pick up their welfare checks.”
CNN recently obtained the newsletters — written in the 1990s and one from the late 1980s — after a report was published about their existence in The New Republic. (more…)

So, the ONLY acceptable answer for you is conveniently the only one he didn’t use? Nevermind that he HAS said more than twice that he takes moral responsibility for these letters.
See the problem is that he answered EXACTLY the way you say he *must.* However, if he had used your answer verbatim, you would’ve just chose a DIFFERENT answer he should have gave.
Get a life. The man denounced racism on national TV. Period. The story is over. Peridod. It didn’t work. Go find something else to “stop Ron Paul at all costs.” Better luck next time.
Keep calling him a racist and you just look like an idiot.
Ron Paul said he is NOT a racist. Now it just boils down to whether you believe him or not. I don’t expect you to believe him. He could’ve fathered a black child, but you still wouldn’t believe him.
It is more important that you don’t like his political views than it is that you are continuing a smear of a very honorable man.
Do you go around telling the police that someone raped you because they owe you money? What kind of sleazy ethics do you have?
It’s quite interesting that the media has not bothered to point out that the person that started spreading this works for the Giuliani campaign.
You people are absolutely pathetic.
I am black, and I know Ron Pail is not a racist…
I have met racists people, and you can tell they are racists when the look at you, and they speak to you….
The eastern establishment is just making sh*t up..
I would love to see Ron Paul win, but with Hillary running, and his views on the federal reserve, irs, cia and so on, he cant win, he was not selected…
Keith -
you aren’t making stuff up when it is in the newsletter. It would be different if the newsletter was named libertarian today or something like that. It wasn’t. It was his newsletter.
BTW, I think that you are guilt of stereotyping racists. As a Black Man, I can tell you that I have met racists that smile and shake my hand but stab you in the back later. Nope, they don’t always come with a label on their forehead. Sorry.
Thanks for your comments.

I must comment on your last sentence, Ron Paul can’t win because his ideas are half baked. He wants to bring all troops home. Great. Now what? What do we do with 500,000 soldiers sitting around? We just let then go into the workforce? Really? We close the IRS. Great idea. How do we make up the $1.1 trillion in revenue? Ron Paul has no answers to these questions.
Local control sounds nice until you remember that the civil rights movement needed federal help to free Blacks in the South during the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Workers abused in a sweat shop need federal help. Local folks are invested in teh status quo.
Thanks again for your comments.
