Why I’m don’t fly on the Shuttle

I’m a nerd. I admit it. I love NASA and the space shuttle. I follow every mission as close as I can given my schedule. I was seriously bummed when we lost the 2 shuttles.

Atlantis took off today. (I should have the video soon.) In the first 2 minutes of any shuttle flight there are 2 procedures that I just love. The first one is the roll of the shuttle just after takeoff. To take something that big and going that fast and precisely roll it, is amazing to me. The second is the shuttle going through the sound barrier. The shuttle has to throttle down to reduce stress. After it passes through the sound barrier, Mission Control simply says, “Atlantis, go with throttle up.” Now, here is where my love for speed would kick in. The Commander will usually say something like, “Throttle up.” Very calm and understated. I’m sorry. I would have worked over 10 years to get in that chair and to be in that position. My response would be, “Hell, yeah. All of you Porsche and Ferrari owners, bite me. Throttle way up!” In a matter of seconds, I would flying faster than 2,000 mph. So, that is one reason why I won’t be flying the shuttle. The other reasons are I’m terribly out of shape and I get sea sick watching a glass of water. Besides that I’m ready!

BTW, not to bring up politics, but didn’t Bush promise to send a man to Mars and back to the moon? Those proposals were DOA before the echo had died in the room.

Chris Wallace on TDS

This segment is pretty funny. Chris Wallace has the gonads to bring up that Karl Rove has joined their team. Jon Stewart takes a minute to find his stride then asks, “Let me ask you a question. Can you hire a felon? Or is that — no, that’s Libby. … Could Libby get a job there too?”

Romney suspends campaign

Mitt Romney has suspended his campaign. I’m not sure what that means. Does that mean that he will start it up again later?

Okay here’s a portion of what Mitt said, “This is not an easy decision for me. I hate to lose.”

“If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror,” he said during the conference. Members of the audience shouted, “No!” as Mr. Romney spoke.

Surrender to Terror?  Isn’t that what the far Right is doing by infusing terror into everything.  This kind of talk, surrender to terror,” makes me nauseated (or maybe it is that Mitt Romney is nauseating).  The assumption is that liberals want to die by a crazed terrorist.

All that I know, is that it is possible to be safe and fight Al Qaeda without giving up my civil liberties.  The government can listen to terrorist without listening in on my phone or looking at my e-mail.  Under a real democrat, we should be able to kill or capture Osama bin Laden and his posse  We should be able to create a system where we don’t have to fear opening our mail because of anathrax or some other chem-bio weapon.

Mitt, I’m really sorry to see you go.  I have been doing all of this reading on Mormonism.  I wanted to expose the lie that Mormonism is a flavor of Christianity.  It is not.  It is not even close.  More on this later.

From AP:

Mitt Romney will suspend his presidential campaign, NBC News has learned.

His withdrawal effectively cedes the Republican nomination to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

In a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington Thursday, Romney talked of Democratic Candidates Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama retreating in Iraq and declaring defeat. (more…)

Countdown - Super Tuesday wrap up

So what did we really see last night? The smoke has cleared. Again, I think that we see that there is no knock out blow. Both candidates are standing. Neither seems to have any particular advantage from Super Tuesday. You can split hairs in many ways in the final analysis you are splitting hairs.

What I can say is that Hillary Clinton loaning herself money can’t be a good sign for her. Doesn’t it show that she is more like Mitt Romney than any Democrat would like to admit? The Obama camp is trying to take advantage of this situation and “according to his web site” Obama has raised $6.1 million since the polls closed on Super Tuesday. That’s incredible.

Keith Olbermann has an insightful discussion with Jonathan Alter and Dana Milbank.

Oh, new polls out have little or no meaning.  These nation polls which have shown Obama closing the gap between himself and Hillary Clinton are worthless.  They are nice to look at but you can’t translate them into money, stock or votes.  The latest Gallup poll shows Hillary Clinton widening the gap.  Is that uniformly applied across the country.  I doubt it.
