Republicans walkout of The House

Finally, the Democrats could get something done without getting interrupted by the nonsense of the Right Wing.  Rep. John Boehner and the gang walked out of the House today.  They just were not going to stand for the grand standing of the Democrats any more.  This allowed the Democrats to slap Josh Bolten and Harriett Miers with Contempt of Congress charges.  Surprisingly, I do not agree with John Boehner when he said that this was a political stunt.  Instead, I believe that everyone who beleives in 3 equal branches of government needs to stand up and take notice.  The executive branch has been running over and bypassing the other 2 branches.  Now, finally, the Legislative Branch of government says you can’t ignore us.

From WaPo:

The House yesterday escalated a constitutional showdown with President Bush, approving the first-ever contempt of Congress citations against West Wing aides and reigniting last year’s battle over the scope of executive privilege.

On a 223 to 32 vote, the House approved contempt citations against White House Chief of Staff Joshua B. Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet E. Miers over their refusal to cooperate with an investigation into the mass firings of U.S. attorneys and allegations that administration officials sought to politicize the Justice Department.  (more…)

FISA

The House has finally stood firm. Why the Senate bowed to the White House is still confusing to me but the House is standing firm.

Mr. Bush’s rhetoric is simply tiresome. The terrorists this and the terrorist that. Are we so lame that we can’t do anything without trying to figure out what the terrorists will do? Hell, don’t we need to be more worried about our own homegrown crazies?

Keith Olbermann revisits one of his most pointed and thoughtful Special Comments.

From NYT:

Broad spying powers temporarily approved by Congress in August appear likely to lapse this week after a daylong game of chicken on Wednesday between the White House and House Democrats produced no clear resolution.

At a morning appearance in the Oval Office, President Bush pressed the House to adopt quickly a plan that the Senate approved on Tuesday to broaden the government’s spying powers and give legal immunity to telephone companies. (more…)

Shooting at Northern Illinois University

How many times are we to say oh what a tragedy? Since the famous shootings at Columbine high school, how many of these “random” shootings have there been? Without using any fancy search engine like Google or Yahoo, how many shootings have there been with in the last year. I’m not talking about gang violence or Man shoots wife or wife shoots husband but instead I’m talking about a guy goes into a mall, like what happened over Christmas. I’m talking about shootings like the one at Virginia Tech to happened about one year ago.

We will of course await for more details to come out of Northern Illinois University. Again we will look for answers and none will be satisfactory.

Moveon.org ups the pressure on SuperDelegates

Moveon.org is an organization that doesn’t like to wait. They don’t like to just let things happens because they know the Right Wing and other forces are always working.  They would like for you to sign a letter that will be in USA Today -

Subject: Superdelegates?

Hi,

You’ve probably heard about the “superdelegates” who could end up deciding the Democratic nominee.

The superdelegates are under lots of pressure right now to come out for one candidate or the other. We urgently need to encourage them to let the voters decide between Clinton and Obama—and then to support the will of the people.

I signed a petition urging the superdelegates to respect the will of the voters. Can you join me at the link below?

I love these guys.

Asheville City Council Race spending

My good friend at Scrutiny Hooligans has asked me to pass on this note.  Of course, I have been in computer limbo.  No that’s not right.  How about Dante’s 7th circle of computer hell?!?!?  So getting e-mail has been a problem.  Posting has been hit and miss.  But, now, after 48 hours of wiping hard drives, figuring out which drive was the Master and which was the Slave, opening and closing my computer so often, I think that I left my PB&J sandwich in there, I’m now up and running.

Back to my original point, SH has taken the time to figure out who spend what on the recent Asheville city council race.  He has the scoop here.

Valentine’s Day Poem & Picture

Indischer_Maler_von_1720_001 Valentines Day Poem & Picture

Here is a 2000 year old poem from India called “You Love Her.”

You love her, while I love you,

and she hates you, and says so.

Love ties us in knots,

keeps us in hell.
