$100 million lawsuit over Super Bowl

super-bowl-36 $100 million lawsuit over Super BowlNo really.  A player from the St. Louis Rams has files a $100 million lawsuit against the New England Patriots over the 2002 Super Bowl.  You remember that just before this last Super Bowl (a couple of weeks ago) a new revelation appeared.  The New England Patriots were accused of spying against the St. Louis Rams.  This of course fits nicely with the fact that the New England Patriots are found to be videotaping the New York Jets very early in the season.  Willie Gary, former Rams player, filed a $100 million lawsuit in the US District Court in New Orleans.

Does he really think that he scored to get $100 million or anything close to it?  Does he really think that he’s going to get a hearing?  I’m positive that the NFL will come down on the side of the New England Patriots in order to close ranks.  The NFL wants their “ultimate game” to be beyond question.  There is no cheating — according to the NFL.  Therefore, no expense will be spared to kill this lawsuit.

TDS - Obama’s wins

Larry Wilmore isn’t used that often on The Daily Show but whenever he shows up he is hilarious. Wilmore points out to Jon Stewart that most of Barack Obama’s wins have come in Black History Month.

The Daily Show is back, really

Jon Stewart celebrates that the writers are back!

On a serious note, who won the stand off? Did the writers get what they wanted? In a nutshell, I guess the answer is sort of. This worth keeping an eye on. Workers really haven’t won a major negotiation since the 80’s, at least not that I know of.

From WaPo:Guild negotiators went in with three goals, Verrone explained. First, jurisdiction of new media. “We achieved that goal.” he said. Second, a provision that writers will be paid residuals for programming streamed on the Internet in the third year of the three-year deal.

The third goal, which was not achieved, he said, was to represent writers of reality and animation programming, who are currently not covered by the WGA — which is why you’re seeing so much reality programming on the broadcast networks’ prime-time lineups. (more…)

Gunman’s father - leave me alone

We have learned a little bit more over the last 24 hours. Nothing enlightening. Gunman with multiple weapons walks into a classroom and opens fire. I have one word. Well really two words to say - Metal detectors. We have to do more to protect our children, don’t we?

The gunman’s father has nothing to say to the swamp of reporters.

Robert Reich’s Views On The Economy

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich recently wrote an opinion column in the New York Times about the current recession. He said Americans have over the last three decades sent women into the work place, worked longer hours and borrowed against their homes to make up for an ongoing decline in wages and buying power.

Mr. Reich suggests that this has all finally caught up with us and that steps must be taken now to address permanent declines in wages and purchasing power.

Here is Mr. Reich’s home page.

Mr. Reich proposes changes in the tax code to assist moderate and low income Americans, stronger unions, and better education as possible solutions to these problems.

Here as some excerpts from the column. You can click the link at the top for the full piece—

WE’RE sliding into recession… and Washington is turning to the normal remedies for economic downturns. But the normal remedies are not likely to work this time, because this isn’t a normal downturn.

The problem lies deeper. It is the culmination of three decades during which American consumers have spent beyond their means….

The only lasting remedy, other than for Americans to accept a lower standard of living…, is to give middle- and lower-income Americans more buying power…..
