What we know
On the Republican side, Mike Huckabee was the little engine that couldn’t. He tried and tried but Florida was his Waterloo. He needed to do well (interpret as win) in South Carolina and Florida and he really didn’t. The money dried up and McCain just kept on rolling. Huckabee formally pulled out of the race this evening but for all practical purposes he has been done for weeks.
John McCain made his “I won’t let you down” speech. This means that he will push for tax cuts for the rich. He will push to keep as many troops as possible in Iraq for as long as possible. This means that those in the “in” crowd would still be in if John McCain is president. Look for retardedly conservative judges. McCain will have be more conservative than Bush, Jr. or Reagan. John McCain goes to the White House tomorrow to kiss the ring of Bush once more. President Bush will formally endorse John McCain. (I’m sorry there is nothing in life that I want this badly. McCain has sold his soul to become president. Everything that he was against he is now for. The guy, George Bush, who buried him with a huge bouquet of lies, is the guy that he needs to help raise money from the fat cats. I’m sorry I just couldn’t do it.)
On the Democratic side, I think that Obama is doing what he thought he was going to do. He was going to make the big races close. This means that he keeps the lead. With Vermont going to Obama and Rhodes Island going to Clinton, it is a draw. Now, if Texas and Ohio split and it looks like they might, the night is a draw. There will not be any significant movement in the delegate count. So, what does that mean? It means that it is increasing likely that Obama can not land a knockout punch but Clinton can’t do much more than survive in the ring. With Wyoming and Mississippi coming up, I’m not sure what to make of this race. Obama seems to have enough of a lead to make a Clinton come back extremely unlikely but she is finally raising money. The Clinton camp finally has some emotion and aren’t just going through the motions.
I suspect that this race will not better but instead will get nastier. We have seen the race turn ugly on a couple of occasions but calmer heads have pulled both partied out of the mud. The 3 am commercial was unforgivable in my mind. It is a Republican fearmonger tactic. Expect more.
I have had enough for tonight. I’ll check the results again in a minute but I don’t see anything significant coming out of tonight.

I think that whoever is the Democratic nominee for President will need to have the smartest team of political advisers ever assembled. The Republican political machine will not go into the sweet night quietly. They have far too much to lose. Let’s think about this - in the next 4 - 8 years, there are going to be at least 3 and maybe 5 Supreme Court judges who will retire. With a Democratic lead House and Senate and a Democratic White House, could Donald Rumsfeld and Alberto Gonzales be hauled before a court and found guilty of crimes against humanity? Could a former President and Vice President have to sit trial for outing a CIA agent? Would companies that have raped the American people, by pocketing millions and millions of dollars by being contractors in Iraq, have to re-pay moneys that were stolen or poorly accounted for? Did you see that a defense contractor has placed a $3 billion bid for
