Obama takes Mississippi

I don’t know about you but I think that Obama success is remarkable.  The Democratic establishment represented by Hillary Clinton has been tearing this man down for the past 3 weeks.  The voters have ignored the craziness.  Wyoming and Mississippi.  Now, when you look at those 2 states there is no way that anyone could conclude that Obama is just supported by Blacks or rich Whites.  Looking at his recent victories once much conclude that his support is really fairly broad based.

Yes, I admit that Mississippi’s Black Democratic vote went overwhelming to Obama.  We all know that Mississippi is a state that is emerging from its racist past.  With representatives like Trent Lott, the state has a long way to go.  Still enough Whites joined with Blacks to give Barack Obama a huge victory.

With 99% of the vote counted Barack Obama has a 60 - 38 lead over Hillary Clinton.  It appears that Barack has already erased whatever delegates that Hillary Clinton won in Texas and Ohio.  I think that he might have even gained some but I’ll need to wait and see the final tally.

Spitzer

So, what now?  Here’s Elliott Spitzer’s statement (video below).  I’ll have more on this later on tonight.  What I will say now is - Larry Craig and David Vitter.  These are both Republican Senators who have been associated with sex scandals in one way or another.  They are both still sitting in the Senate.  If you are going to force Elliott Spitzer to leave office then these 2 shining examples of right wing hypocrisy should be forced out of office also.

Bill Clinton - unbeatable team

Bill Clinton was answering questions over the weekend when he was asked about a Hillary Clinton - Barack Obama team.  He mentions what the polls clearly shows - Hillary wins in the rural areas and Barack wins in the major cities.  Yes, that would be a great team BUT…  Now, this is what the former President doesn’t mention.  He doesn’t say that Barack Obama could get another running mate that would also do well in the rural areas.  He doesn’t mention that Barack Obama would do far better as a presidential candidate if he choses someone with a great track record on Foreign Policy and/or Intelligence.

Hillary Clinton adds little to Barack Obama in my opinion.  This is NOT a knock on Hillary but instead, it is a criticism of her experience.  She is a one term Senator.  Obama is almost a one term Senator.  They are both Democrats.  They are both progressives.  Clinton may have a little more of a conservative record but not much difference.  Hillary Clinton would need someone like Jim Webb or John Kerry (both for their experience)  to balance out a Hillary ticket in my opinion.  Barack Obama would need a Bob Graham or Joe Biden (I have changed my mind on Binden).

For more on my thinking on VP’s.  I did have a contest to see who could convince me of the best VP candidates and the winner’s thoughts are here.

Smokey Robinson - A Black American

The great Smokey Robinson on Def Poetry Jam.

A friend of mine sent this video to me.  You never know about my friends.  It can be anything from a dirty joke, to a chain letter to something truly thoughtful and inspirational.  Smokey Robinson has to be in his late 70’s?  He looks good.  His mind and tongue are sharp.

It seems that every couple of years we have to re-name ourselves.  Black, Negro, African-American.  Smokey is basically talking about stopping the madness.  This is clearly worth a look see.
