McCain Rails on Obama

Okay, I think we know one of Senator John McCain’s main talking points and that he will have this one for at least another couple of months. According to McCain, Senator Barack Obama– the product of a single, working-class mother– is elitist and out of touch with America. But where did Barack Obama do his community organizing? Probably in some ritzy neighborhood, like the South Side of Chicago. I don’t see how this line will work, but more power to him.

McCain has also asked demanded that Obama condemn former president Jimmy Carter for meeting with Hamas. McCain is doing two things with this jab. He is trying to put doubts in the minds of American Jews that Obama will not support Israel in the clutch. He is also trying to stir something up  within the Democratic party.

As far as I know, Carter is a private citizen, so he is allowed to go where ever he can afford to go. I think it is a smart move for Carter to go to the Middle East;  No other president has made bigger strides toward peace in the region than him (but Clinton comes second in my book). The current president is in a distance 30th place. As a matter of fact, I think that it can be argued that he has done more harm than good.

By the way, how out of touch can you be when 1.3 million Americans have donated to your campaign, like they have done for Obama? Does McCain have even half that many donors?

Does Ayers Matter?

Before last Wednesday I’d never heard of Bill Ayers or the “Weather Underground.” I’m sorry that I’m not up on 1960s radical groups. But for reasons that are unclear to me, George Stephanopoulos decided to ask Senator Barack Obama about this man during the most recent debate.

It turns out that the Washington Post has painted a completely different picture of Ayres. He is currently an educator, fighting for smaller schools to improve the quality of education throughout the city (I personally agree with this action). He is an informal adviser to Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. The story is such a non-issue that Daley issued a statement stating that Ayers is a “valued member of the Chicago community.”

For reasons that are unclear to me, Republicans continue to use the same old “look over here at this pile of horse manure” tactic and the media continues to fall for it. All the while, the Democrats are telling the media to focus on a ‘burning building’ to get everyone to try to save it. In the end, the metaphorical building continues to burn as the media reports on the Republican’s pile of manure.

The Ayers story is a pile of horse manure.

Obama and Jay-Z Mash-up

This is pretty clever– a Barack Obama and Jay-Z mash-up. I wouldn’t have thought it. This video does point out that Hillary Clinton has been attacking Obama for months: “That is not change that you can believe in, it is change that you can Xerox.” Yuck.

The Errington Thompson Show 4-5-08

Remember that Bush was billed as our first CEO president? Well, that didn’t work out so well. We’ll find out why when Greg Mitchell, the editor of “Editor and Publisher” magazine stop by as a guest. We will discuss his new book, “So Wrong for So Long.” Be prepared for an excellent interview with someone who was critical of the Bush administration and the war from the beginning.
