The Daily Show: Journalist Exchange Program

We have all heard about embedded journalists. On Sunday, the New York Times reported that many of the military experts that we saw on our TV’s during the run-up to the Iraq War were in fact on the Pentagon’s payroll or on the payroll of a major defense contractor. This is not surprising from an administration that gave us Jeff Gannon and paid that “pundit” (Armstrong Williams) to say great things about No Child Left Behind.

Jon Stewart does a great job wrapping this one up. Enjoy.

Update: Please note the comment by Jeff Gannon. In an attempt not to slander Mr. Gannon, I would point readers to this Salon article.

The Daily Show: New GAO Report

Rob Riggle reports on the new GAO report on Bin Laden. It seems like we never really had a plan on how to eliminate Osama Bin Laden then and we still don’t have a plan now. It’s very nauseating. If we just had a president who cared more about protecting Americans than cutting brush on his mansion.

Anyway, The Daily Show does a great job with this segment.

A Few Sports Items

  • The Dallas Mavericks are on their way to losing in the first round, again. They have clearly fallen since their finals appearance two or three years ago. Chris Paul is single-handedly torching them. I’m still not sure why any one would actively go and get Jason Kidd. We sent Devin Harris, a young, super quick defender and up-and-coming star to the Nets. Paul is clearly making Kidd look old and slow. There was no defense which Coach Avery was supposed to be known for. It reminded me of when we traded Dale Ellis to Seattle. He came back and destroyed the Mavericks in the playoffs.
  • Rumors are flying that the Dallas Cowboys are planning on trading up so that they can get Darren McFadden. In my opinion, that would be a mistake. We need a quick fast running back to compliment Marion Barber. We need another wide receiver to go with T. O.. There are some rumors that we could work a trade with Detroit that would bring Roy Williams to the Boyz. The Cowboys need another cover corner. The Pacman deal has been on the back burner for over three weeks.
  • Congratulations to John Smoltz for getting his 3,000 strike-out. He is only the third player in Major League history to get all of his 3,000 strike-outs with the same team.
  • Finally, back to basketball, what happened to the great Phoenix Suns? They added Shaq to prove… what exactly? They are down 2-0. Like the Mavericks, they are looking like yesterday’s news.

Emmanuel Pickett

I didn’t know Emmanuel Pickett, but I wish I had. He was from Wallace, North Carolina. He was the butcher, the police detective and he was in the National Guard. He was a remarkable man of only 34 years-old when he was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. NPR has a wonderful remembrance of this great man. He was the kind of man that treated everyone with dignity and respect. He was the kind of man that we should all strive to be.

Finally, Obama is Back on Message

Senator Barack Obama is at his best when he stays on message. Here’s Obama’s speech from Indiana.

By the way, exit poll data is somewhat depressing to me. I believe that we are going to have to come together as a nation and the exit poll data doesn’t seem to show that we are even close to doing that. This primary seems to be split by race since 60 percent of whites voted for Senator Hillary Clinton while over 90 percent of blacks voted for Obama. In the states that Clinton won, this has been the clear theme. I don’t think that anything has changed over the past three to four months. Women over 65 years old vote overwhelming for Clinton. Democrats under the age of 30 vote for Obama. There really seems to be no real movement in the demographics. The ads are not changing the core folks. Instead, the ads are geared toward the independents.

Now, we turn to Indiana and North Carolina.

Update: Clinton will be in Charlotte on Monday the 28th. She will also be here in Asheville on April 24th at the Civic Center at 8 pm. Check here for further details.

Clinton Takes Pennsylvania

I’m not sure why people vote the way that they do. It seems that we don’t vote based on logic, but rather most of us vote based on emotion. Senator Hillary Clinton convinced Pennsylvania voters that she is the one. I think that “Bitter-gate” did hurt Senator Barack Obama. Despite polls revealing no change and other polls showing that Obama was winning friends in the “Keystone” state, he was down by 20 percent. Then it dropped to 15 percent. With two weeks to go, he was down by 10 percent then even lower to six percent. He was stuck at six percent. He spent time talking about his comments and not giving his message. This is a problem. It’s unclear why the voters of Pennsylvania didn’t think that Bosnia was a deal breaker.

I guess my question to Clinton supporters is, how do you expect Clinton to win the nomination? Realistically, how?

Here’s Clinton’s victory speech -
