Tired

Man, I have been beaten like a rented mule at work- Tons of patients. Tons of sick patients.

I have a couple of items to mention before I pour myself into bed.

  • Vote. If you live in Indiana or North Carolina – Vote.
  • Howard Kurtz has a very interesting article in the Washington Post today. The title says it all: “Why the Press Turned on Obama.” I spoke with Eric Boehlert of Media Matters over a month ago on my radio show. We were talking about how Senator McCain gets a free pass on tons of misstatements and false statements. He said that Senator Barack Obama was riding a wave of good press but that me and my listeners should not to expect the good press to last. Eric was 100% Wright right.
  • Polls reveal what I have known for some time. Senator Hillary Clinton is up in Indiana and Obama is up in North Carolina. With a ton of guess work, one can assume that by this time tomorrow Obama would have gained about three to five delegates and would have increased his lead in the popular vote by 60 thousand. This means nothing really. We are still locked in this cage match.
  • The death of the D.C. Madam was really just too convenient. Several people had a lot to gain if she just disappeared. By the way, it is a little unusual for a woman to hang herself. Women tend to use pills or other less violent methods.
  • First Lady Laura Bush (remember her?) held a news conference today. She was talking about Myanmar, which was it by a huge cyclone. I’m not sure why she decided to pick up this topic and run with it. If she is looking for causes to support, I have a suggestion. How about fixing New Orleans and the Gulf Coast!!!?!?!?!?
  • Obama picked up two superdelegates from Maryland. I continue to wonder what the rest of the ’supers’ are waiting for. However, I can understand John Edwards. He wants a cabinet position. Personally, I would hold on to Edwards and elect him to the Supreme Court. Everyone else, what are you waiting for? Forty-one states have had their contests. What are you waiting for a sign from GOD? Decide already!
  • A letter written by 230 economists, including four Nobel Prize winners, opposes Hillary Clinton’s gas-tax proposal. They state: “First, research shows that waiving the gas tax would generate major profits for oil companies rather than significantly lowering prices for consumers.” They go on to say, “Second, it would encourage people to keep buying costly imported oil and do nothing to encourage conservation. Third, a tax holiday would provide very little relief to families feeling squeezed.”

Is She Pandering?

This is an excellent video put together by TPM media (I wish I had the staff to put this kind of stuff together).  I think that it clearly shows that Senator Hillary Clinton is pandering for votes. The gas-tax holiday is bad on so many levels.

These are clips from Senator Barack Obama and Clinton along with news personalities talking about the gas-tax holiday.

Tom Hanks Endorses Obama

I normally don’t care who grabs which celebrity. I don’t care who Britney Spears likes or dislikes for president. Then again, Tom Hanks isn’t your typical celebrity. This is worth watching.

Empire Strikes Barack

I’m not sure who made this clip but it is funny.

More on the Gas-tax

36832290 More on the Gas taxTCR has been blogging about the gas tax for several days. Yesterday, he seemed to put everything together. He said it better than I could have. The gas-tax holiday is really a window into Hillary Clinton and her campaign. It reflects her “I will say anything and do anything to get elected” mentality. There is no line that she will not cross. There is no bar that is too low.

From TCR:

After writing five posts in five days on the increasingly-ridiculous debate over a “gas-tax holiday,” I was prepared to let the subject go. Really, I was. The NYT had an interesting item about the role of the gas-tax idea within the broader context of Clinton’s and Obama’s economic perspectives, but I read it thinking, “Must … avoid … topic ….”

But this morning, Hillary Clinton effectively taunted me into yet another post. It’s really not my fault; it’s hers.

Hillary Clinton has just started doing an Indiana town-hall meeting being broadcast on ABC, and George Stephanopoulos asked her a direct question: Could she name a single economist who agrees with her support for the gas tax holiday?

Hillary sidestepped the question, and tried to use the complete dearth of expert support for the idea to her advantage, pointing to it as proof that she’s on the side of ordinary folks against “elite opinion” — a phrase she used twice.

“I think we’ve been for the last seven years seeing a tremendous amount of government power and elite opinion behind policies that haven’t worked well for hard working Americans,” she said.

That banging sound you hear is me hitting my head against my desk.

First, Stephanopoulos’ question was pretty reasonable. The Huffington Post spent most of Thursday trying to find a single economist — left, right, center, Dem, Republican, even former Clinton administration officials — who could defend Clinton’s idea. Zero turned up. Literally, not one. That should give us a hint about the merit of the proposal. [Read more →]
