Scott McClellan

Apple Tree

Scott McClellan, former Press Secretary under George W. Bush, wrote a book with a critical eye toward his the president.

McClellan is a turncoat– Just like his mom.

McClellan’s mom, Carole Keeton Strayhorn, is well-known here in Texas because she has run for office as a a Democrat, Republican, and as a third-party candidate. Strayhorn served as Democratic Mayor of Austin and as a Republican Texas State Comptroller. She then ran for Governor in 2006 as an Independent against a Republican incumbent. She dropped and changed party affiliations to suit her ambitions.

If McClellan had a real problem with President George W. Bush, he could have resigned in protest.  Instead, he is making big money with a book. He has no loyalty to either President Bush or the American people.

Above you see a picture of some apples on a tree. This reminds us that the apples do not fall far from the tree. In this case, though, they are root and branch the same rotten fruit.

Here is what it says in Matthew about trees and the fruit they bear:

You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

Here is some information about apple trees.

  1. Like you said ” Why didn’t he resign?” The book of gold would come from Colin Powell.

  2. TL, I think you are too harsh on McClellan. Agree he should have spoken up sooner, but what has he said that is untrue?
The timing for a bestseller is fine with me - wake up the populace, from an insider–during this pivotal moment. Loyalty to Bush and his cabal got us into this mess. No one called out Bush for his policies.

As far as the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree analogy - hmpf - parents cannot take all the blame or responsibility for their children. Hitler’s family changed their names. Ted Kazynski’s family as was Jeffrey Dahmler’s were…..

  3. Margaret–Colin Powell–That’s right. And where is he now? Silent as always.

Jackie–I’d say in this case that Mr. McClellan mirrors his mom in a unique way. Both are political turncoats. It seems he learned from a good model in this regard.

It seems to me that this information would have been more useful earlier in President Bush’s term. The clock has almost run out by now.

Thanks for both of these comments and for reading the blog.

  4. Jackie -

I think that you are right. TL is being too harsh. I think that Scott McClellan bought into the Bush thing. I think that he still likes and admires George W. I also think that he was hurt by being lied to. I think that Scott believes that he is a victim.

  5. Errington—But why not tell the truth for free, or when it mattered more? It just seems empty to me at this point.

  6. Some people aren’t strong enough. Just as good people couldn’t or wouldn’t stand up to other leaders. I think that Scott was/is a nice guy who didn’t have much of a back bone. It is clear that he is trying to make some money. I think that it is also clear that there is some truth in his book.

On my show tomorrow, Marcy Wheeler calls him out for his lack of detail or lying.

I don’t think that he is the devil or a saint. He is just a guy who was influenced.

    Thanks, TL
