Who would prejudge a beautiful well dressed blonde? Well, I would for one. I try not to prejudge any one but it happens. Lara Logan is a beautiful woman who has been in Iraq for over 5 years. I just didn’t think that she would bring it. I thought she would sugar coat what’s going on. NOT!! In your face!! She doesn’t pull any punches. When was the last time that the American people has seen a dead American soldier. That was one of her rhetorical questions. Jon Stewart was blown away by her frankness.
Is this commercial out of bounds? Personally, I think not. I think that this is a great commercial. Republicans are crying foul.
MoveOn keep doing what you are doing. (BTW, what you doing about this FISA compromise?)
Just came from seeing Kung Fu Panda for the second time. My 4 year grandson wanted to see the movie again. It is a really fun movie. The animation is great. This is great fun for the whole family. I highly recommend it.
President Bush visits Iowa.
Update: I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the death of State Trooper David Blanton here in Asheville. The trooper was making a traffic stop when someone in the car opened fire. A suspect has been arrested and may face the death penalty. Too sad for words.
From Russ Feingold:
The proposed FISA deal is not a compromise; it is a capitulation. The House and Senate should not be taking up this bill, which effectively guarantees immunity for telecom companies alleged to have anticipated in the President’s illegal program, and which fails to protect the privacy of law-abiding Americans at home. Allowing courts to review the question of immunity is meaningless when the same legislation essentially requires the court to grant immunity. And under this bill, the government can still sweep up and keep the international communications of innocent Americans in the U.S. with no connection to suspected terrorists, with very few safeguards to protect against abuse of this power. Instead of cutting bad deals on both FISA and funding for the war in Iraq, Democrats should be standing up to the flawed and dangerous policies of this administration.”
Can someone call the White House and see if the president is interested in coming to Iowa, Illinois or Missouri and comforting Americans in need?
Basically, I’m a happy guy. I love to laugh. I’m married to beautiful, thoughtful, supportive wife. I’m living my childhood dream. I’m a doctor. A friend of mine sent me an e-mail that touched a nerve. It was about happiness. The first paragraph reported that polls show that vast majority of Americans are unhappy with the direction of our country and our President’s leadership. The e-mail went on to berate Americans for being unhappy. We have a great economy, it said. We have jobs and a roof over our heads. It went on and on then ended with the question - what is there to be unhappy about? I thought about this e-mail for a little while then I wrote the following -
Our unhappiness is clear. We should be unhappy. When we are lied to by you’re your parents you’re unhappy. When people you trusted, people you poured your heart, soul and dreams into turn out to be con-men, you’re unhappy. Vice President Cheney stated, “There is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction. There is no doubt he is amassing them to use against our friends, against our allies, and against us. And there is no doubt that his aggressive regional ambitions will lead him into future confrontations with his neighbors — confrontations that will involve both the weapons he has today, and the ones he will continue to develop with his oil wealth.” None of this was true.
When a Black man who is running for president of the United States in the 2007 is called a “Halfican” by several leading right wing commentators and there is no action taken against them, I’m unhappy. When those same commentators play a song called, “Puff the Magic Negro” sung in Al Sharpton’s voice and it’s about Barack Obama and these commentators are still on the air, I’m unhappy.
When politicians stand up and say that we need to end this war like John Warner (Republican Senator from Virginia) and then vote against timetables, troop withdrawal and giving troops some time away from the front, yep, I’m unhappy.
When the average family has 2 incomes and still can’t make ends meet, I’m unhappy. The average income for the top 20 Hedge Fund managers was $654 million last year. Average! WE have a system in place where if you are born rich you can’t lose. If you are born poor, good luck! [Read more →]
New Polling has Barack Obama leading John McCain in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Sweet. (In a separate poll American’s like Michelle Obama more than Cindy McCain. I’m not sure why there is polling on this. Will there be a poll out on who has the cutest child?)
As John McCain does this impossible dance in which he tries to sell to the American public that he is NOT George W. Bush but at the same time he is telling the Republican base that he will support the policies of Bush, I’m just enjoying the contortions. Because the dance isn’t possible. You can do one thing or the other thing and McCain is trying to have it both ways. So, to separate himself from the policies of George Bush, John McCain announced in Texas that he supports off-shore drilling. The crowd went wild. This is a flip-flop from John McCain’s long time opposition to off-shore drilling. Just to prove that he will do anything to stay in John McCain’s good graces, Governor Crist of Florida now supports off-shore drilling. Then to complete the trifecta, George Bush announces something truly surprising. He wants to lift the ban on off-shore drilling and for good measure drill in Alaska. Interestingly, his father imposed the ban by executive order. Junior could lift the ban by executive order but he has chosen not to. I wonder why?
