Countdown - Special Report on Gas Prices

Keith Olbermann tells us how John McCain and his chief economic policy adviser former Senator Phil Gramm of Texas help develop then maintain the Enron Loophole. This Loophole has allowed energy speculators to pump up the price of gas. This is an excellent report.

Obama has given a major speech stating that he wants to close the Enron Loophole.

Worst Persons

Worst Persons in the World -

  • John Bolton for being John Bolton
  • Chris Wallace for suggesting that Fox doesn’t let O’Reilly and Hannity anchor their “news” show. Wrong
  • Paula Froelich, of the New York Post, Rupert Murdoch production, made up a story about Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews then tried to justify the made up story.

What’s Going On — News Round Up

ksm Whats Going On -- News Round Upthis is the late-night weekend edition

  • In spite of the criticism and outright bashing that comes from bloggers and politicians about the mainstream media, in general, and the New York Times, in specific, there are a few things in the New York Times (and papers like it) do better than anyone else. Scott Shane has a fabulous article on Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the mastermind behind 9/11. The article takes us inside the interrogation. He shows us the good and the bad inside the CIA. This is a must read article!
  • Did you miss this article? 1200 prisoners escaped from a prison in Afghanistan. 350 of them were Taliban fighters. What is this a Hollywood movie?  Oh yeah, we have Afghanistan under control.
  • Oil producing and Oil consuming counties are meeting in Saudi Arabia. With $140 per barrel oil, it seems that the oil-producing countries are somewhat worried about oil prices. I guarantee they do not have our best interests at heart.
  • The banking industry has yet another reason to worry. It appears that Americans are cash-strapped. Therefore late payments are at an all-time high for car loans, small business loans, construction loans — everything.
  • Barack Obama and John McCain see the government’s role in flood protection a little differently. The levee system is a mess and only the government can coordinate and fix them. Regional and not local plans are needed.
  • I’m sorry. I paid too little attention to Zimbabwe. The situation in this African country has been deteriorating for a while. National election results have been ignored. Robert Mugabe is enacting an all too familiar story. The one-time liberator has now become the oppressor. Government assassins are roaming the countryside gunning down opposition leaders.

Lara Logan reports on Aghan warlord

CBS’ Lara Logan reports from Afghanistan. She interviews an Afghan warlord who has been killing American soldiers and evading American capture. Once again, this report shows us that Afghanistan isn’t fixed. We have a lot of work to do in Afghanistan. We need to build roads. We need to stop the exporting of poppy. We must extend the reach of the government beyond Kandahar.

Fox plays the angry Black Woman card

OH my. Carl Thomas of Fox News plays the race card big time. In past we’ve seen some people who’ve been subtle in their racism. This is not subtle. When you begin to list black women on TV and then label all of them as angry black women you are playing the race card. Of course, the purpose of this diatribe is to place Michelle Obama in the category of angry black women. (You can watch her on The View being anything but angry.)

The Errington Thompson Show 6-21-08

Brian Katulis from the Center for American Progress is my guest. We discuss his new book, Afghanistan, his recent trip to Pakistan and, of course, Iraq. We also begin our $75 give away. We figure that it is expensive out there with food and gas prices. We want to help, at least a little bit. We will give away $75 each week for the next 4 weeks. For most cars, $75 should get you a tank of gas and a soft drink. Enjoy!!

Michelle Obama’s dress is a hit

As you know by now, Michelle Obama was on the View this week. She wore a Black and White dress that was perfect for the occasion. The dress can be found off the rack at your local store. Well, that isn’t completely true. It is off the rack but the dresses have been flying off the rack. Your local store is probably sold out.

Here’s what I like. As the Republicans are going to try to paint Barack and Michelle Obama as elitist while she is wearing a $148 dress. It is very hard to call any one elite when they are wearing off the rack closes. Sweet!

From MSNBC:

Donna Ricco has been a successful fashion designer for a long time — but it took Michelle Obama to make her famous.

On Wednesday, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama took a turn as co-host of TV talkfest “The View.” When the show’s audience saw her breezy, black-and-white, high-waisted print dress designed by Ricco, they had to have it. Virtually overnight, the dress all but sold out at the White House/Black Market boutiques that sell it for an affordable $148. (more…)
