Continued flooding in Midwest

More flooding. I just don’t see this ending any time soon.

From MSNBC:

The swollen Mississippi River burst another levee Tuesday, submerging farmland and threatening a residential area whose occupants had already moved out in anticipation of a flood.

The levee failure near St. Charles comes as teams furiously fill sandbags to reinforce other waterlogged embankments guarding towns still waiting for the arrival of the huge river’s flood crest. (more…)

Dobson: Obama distorts Bible

James Dobson believes that if you don’t agree with his interpretation of the Bible then you are distorting the Bible. Unfortunately, for Mr. Dobson, God didn’t give him the power of infinite wisdom or insight. I guess Love thy Neighbor means we all must think and believe what Dobson believes.

BTW, the speech that Dobson has his panties in a twist over was given over 2 years ago. The speech was on religious tolerance. No wonder Dobson is so upset. We (or rather he) can’t have religious tolerance because that would put him out of business. Focus on the Family is all about intolerance.

Update: I found this excellent post on Kos from a moderate Christian coalition called Matthew 25.

From WaPo:

Dobson’s comments, which aired today on his Focus on the Family radio show, come as Obama’s campaign plans to launch a broad appeal to evangelicals and Catholics.

Dobson and Tim Minnery, a senior vice president at Focus on the Family, spent about 20 minutes of the show harshly critiquing a speech that Obama gave in 2006 to a group of liberal Christian leaders.

In the speech, Obama argues for religious diversity and acceptance and prods liberals not to cede issues of faith to Republicans. (more…)

Woman becomes first 4 star

You see. George W. Bush isn’t all bad just mostly. ;-) President Bush has nominated Lt. General Ann Dunwoody to become this nation’s first 4 star general. She will need to be confirmed by Congress but congratulations to her and all American women as glass ceilings continue to break in this country.

Imus on the hotseat again

I’m not sure that I buy Don Imus’ explanation. Do you?

What’s Going On - News Round Up

  • Surprisingly, FEMA is getting good grades from midwest flood victims then again midwesterners are really nice people. Good for FEMA, finally.
  • What? McCain doesn’t know how to use a computer? Heck, my 4 yo grandson tells me to go to Disney.com and then I need to let go of the mouse. My 72 yo father who died several years ago, could send those racy internet jokes and could type of letter in Word. McCain is running for President and can’t use a computer. Now, who is elitist? I’m guessin’ that Senator McCain has someone do his computer work for him.
  • Nice article on how doctors know a ton of stuff but we still have a lot to learn with Cardiology in specific and Medicine in general.
  • Jerry Seinfeld wrote an Op-Ed about George Carlin. “We were talking about Tim Russert and Bo Diddley and George said: ‘I feel safe for a while. There will probably be a break before they come after the next one. I always like to fly on an airline right after they’ve had a crash. It improves your odds.’
  • Violence in Iraq.

VP candidates

I had a long discussion on vice presidential candidates back in February (here and here). Many readers became commenters. It is interesting how nothing has really changed since February. Hardball has a nice discussion on the Vice Presidential candidates with Howard Fineman from Newsweek and Roger Simon from Politico.com.
