What’s Going On: Evening News Round-up

  • The House Judiciary Committee voted in favor of charging Karl Rove with contempt of Congress.
  • A brief filed by the Bush administration with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court asked the court to keep any challenges to the wiretapping law passed earlier this year secret.
  • New documents reveal that the state of Georgia actually knew about the “patch” that Deibold placed after the election. Cathy Cox, Georgia Secretary of State, inquired about the patch. This patch was selectively applied to certain computers just before the 2002 election in Georgia.
  • President Bush signs the Housing Relief Bill. Unfortunately, after further review, I’m not sure that it really brings all that much relief.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced that he will not seek re-election. He is in the middle of a corruption investigation that has marred his administration.
  • The CIA finally documents ties between Pakistan senior officials and militants. Many books, including Richard Clarke’s “Against All Enemies,” have already pointed to the Pakistani government as a problem.

  1. You know what is interesting is the fact that none of the news organizations that I read and listen too, mentioned the huge natural gas find in Mansfield, LA. The article was in the International Hearald. It is a ten year supply for the nation. The largest found in the lower 48 states. There are about 6,000 people in this town and they are becoming millionares overnight. Why didn’t this story make national news. It is extremely good news for that section of the country and while the President is pleading for more offshore drilling for gas and oil. He fails to congradulate the company that found it. It is believed to lie under sections of Texas and up into Arkasas. I am so thrilled for these people. Anyone who owns even a small piece of land is becoming rich. It will help that economy and the state of Louisiana…. They have 5 wells already tapped and will be drilling more. I think it said 250 trillion cubic feet and the whole nation only used 25 trillion last year. It still is a fossil fuel but it is cleaner….. Now that is some good news for a change.

  2. I don’t think that this gas find is new. maybe the size of the find is new but I thought that there were several gas/oil field in and around mansfield and many.

  3. Maybe I just don’t remember ever reading it anywhere. I try to keep up on new finds to give arguement against alaskan drilling. To me that is a huge find when everyone is whinning how we need to drill more in alaska and off shore. When there are still places the companies have leases to that they haven’t even tried yet. Pelosi was on Colbert stating the same thing make them drill where they have leases and see what they can find. .
