Blonde White Women

A new Television advertisementby supporters of Senator John McCain flashes images of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, suggesting that Senator Barack Obama is a celebrity.

But that’s not really the story.

The story here is about linking a black man to blond white women. This is just what Tennessee Republicans did with black U.S. Senate nominee Harold Ford in 2006.

The people who make these ads know what they are doing.

McCain has already said Obama would lose a war in order to win an election. McCain will say and do anything.

Senator McCain voted against the Martin Luther King holiday. He now says he is sorry.

The McCain campaign could only find two blonde white women to put in that ad?

  1. If the McCain campaign did an ad linking Obama with stupid, African American celebrity men (say, ODB, Flavor Flav, Michael Vick ) that would be racist and you’d be going after him for that. Linking him with a stupid white woman celebrity is kind of the opposite of racist.

Would you rather he put Nichole Richey in this add? Would that be more acceptable? Or less?

  2. Wow! Open mouth, insert foot. You are absolutely correct. The add would be racisit (too) if you included your selections for Black Celebrities. Why did you choose these guys? Old Dirty Bastard - convict, rapper, Flavor Flav - great exploiter of women, (some of them are white), rapper and Michael Vick - superstar turned animal abuser and convict. If this is your top three for famous black men a little self evaluation is in order.

Anyway you slice it the ad is tasteless and filled with racial undertones. Not only are they scaring swing state voters (Euphemism for blue collar white guys) with paranoia about a black man appealing to white women, they are yet again saying that “this black guy doesn’t know his place!”
“But is he ready to lead?” Give me a break - He’s already leading and McSame is in the dust.

  3. You are 100% correct. Obama is already leading!!

  4. Its just how did it end up with two blonde white women from all the different types of people in this country?

  5. For what it is worth…
I was in AZ for the whole Mecham MLK debacle.
My interpretation of McCain was not that he made a mistake, but rather that he showed his true colors. No pun intended. The gentleman tried to play both sides of the fence. I could have strenuously disagreed with his opinion on the MLK issue, but still at least respected him from the standpoint of him putting himself on the line. However, he was wrong on the MLK issue AND tried to get over by placating the opposition, which only tells me he’s is just another suit. I seriously do not think we need just another suit for four more years. Do you?
Though a word to the wise.. Now that the gloves have come off, and the whole political machine is behind McCain, I am sure that it will get much more objectionable than the ad in question.
Oh … the times we live in.
